She explained that she wanted to “freshen up” the area without investing too much money.
“Since moving in, DIY has consumed me,” the original poster wrote in the comments section.
The Redditor revealed that she found herself walking into her hall to admire her handwork weeks after completing the project.
She revealed that she purchased the carpet runner for the stairs online.

For her first step, she removed the old carpet and examined the underlay.
The DIY pro decided to reuse the material, cutting it back to fit under the runner.
She then sanded the steps, filling in any cracks or holes that she noticed.
Deciding to skip primer, she went in with two coats of paint on the stairs.
“I then started on the landing and secured the runner with a little pin in each corner and carpet tape on each side then worked down stair at a time,” she explained.
“I let the runner come over each step, pushing it tight into the stair below to ensure it was tight enough.
“[I] used carpet tape at the bottom of the vertical bit of each step as well as along the sides of the flat part of the stair.”
The Redditor said that she repeated this process “the entire way down” before trimming the runner at the end to fit under the lip of the bottom step.
“I used pins and not staples as you’d see the staples easier on material like this as the pile isn’t as fluffy as a carpet,” she explained.

Other Reddit users praised the before and after transformation in the comments section.
“Saved this post for future reference. Lovely job, you should be proud of it,” wrote one impressed reader.
“That looks really good, think I’ll go for same look in my next house,” said another commenter.
“Looks stunning, what a difference some paint, carpet, and elbow grease can make,” commented a third person.
