INFLATION hasn’t haltered a skincare addict’s focus on maintaining her appearance as she’s found a budget-friendly dupe of her favorite moisturizer.
She vowed never to splurge $25 on the beauty buy again as the cheaper alternative has almost the same ingredients.
A Reddit user raved about an affordable alternative to a popular moisturizer (stock image)[/caption]She penned a lengthy review of the moisturizers on Reddit’s Skincare Addiction forum, which has almost 4 million members.
“I used the Aveeno Calm and Restore oat moisturizer for almost a year,” she said, writing under the handle Llilywebskateboarder.
“Wonderful moisturizer, the problem is that it was $15 for one jar when I first bought it, now (because of inflation) it is $25!! $25 for exactly a month’s supply.
“It is the most gentle, rich, nonscented gel moisturizer I’ve ever tried.”
The beauty enthusiast said she’d recommend the product to people who can afford it.
However, she had to find a cheaper moisturizer to save money as she’s starting college and doesn’t have a job.
Neutrogena, Cetaphil, CeraVe, and Coca-Butter were among the products she tried in her search for an “everyday gel-like” moisturizer.
A post from another Redditor convinced her to try Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Moisturizing Cream.
“I looked it up and it basically had the same ingredients,” she said.
“And since it’s for babies it can’t be too harsh so I went and looked for it at my local Walgreens and it was there.
“$11 for 5 oz compared to $25 for 1.7oz is a HUGE difference for me. It’s the same oat-infused formula by the same company!!
“Let me tell you I’ve used this for two weeks and this is an exact dupe.”
She said Aveeno Calm and Restore Oat Moisturizer and the Aveeno baby product both have an oat smell that goes away within five minutes.
They also have a similar “watery” consistency that enhances the skin without having to use a large amount at once.
“I haven’t had a single pimple flare up since I started using the cheaper dupe,” she said.

“Layers wonderfully under sunscreen no pilling or weird shinyness at all.
“Perfect for morning and night.
“I am so happy I tried this out, I will never buy that $25 moisturizer again because this is actually better.
“In the colder months, I might want to go back, but I’m sure I could get away with layering a thicker moisturizer over this cream.”
She shared photos of the product’s packaging side-by-side and snaps of the moisturizer on her skin.
She urged anyone who likes Aveeno Calm and Restore Moisturizer to try the brand’s baby product.
“It is the exact same thing, moisturizes wonderfully,” she said,
“And if you feel like it’s not moisturizing enough you won’t feel guilty if you want to put it on your body or feet or something because it’s $11.
“That’s like two really good sandwiches!”
Thousands of people upvoted the post and thanked her for sharing the recommendation.
“Omg you’re god sent! I’ve been looking all over the internet for a decent dupe and like you I’m a university student and would like to save my coins,” one person said.
“I love this. I need a dupe list,” another commented.
“OMG THANK YOU,” a third chimed in.
The excitement over the products follows studies that suggest oatmeal is a superfood for the skin.
According to Medical News Today, the ingredient may alleviate conditions such as skin dryness and itchiness.
Oatmeal may also be beneficial for moisturizing.
