A PROUD Mormon wife who landed herself in a ”soft swinger” scandal has opened up about her fears of being shunned from society because of her raunchy escapades in the past.
Taylor Frankie Paul, who has over 4.1million followers on TikTok, broke the internet when she revealed that she and her hubby, Tate Paul, were calling it quits after she had violated a swinging agreement they’d made with their pals.
The young mum-of-three, from Utah, appeared on the Hulu hit show, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives[/caption]”We had an agreement, all of us, and I did step out of that agreement,’’ she bravely confessed in a TikTok live in May 2022.
In the video — which is no longer available on Taylor’s TikTok page but has been shared globally — she explained that she and her then-husband had been taking part in soft swinging, a type of consensual non-monogamy that involves being intimate with other people’s partners.
While there is no official definition of soft swinging, Taylor described it as “when you just hook up but you don’t go all the way.”
She also said she had “messed up” by violating the boundaries she and her husband had agreed when it came to their sexual activities with other people.
“The agreement was just like, as long as we were both there and we saw it and we knew it, it was OK,” she said. “And the second it goes behind each other, you’ve stepped out of the agreement. And I did that.”
‘‘That’s where I messed up and I’m obviously losing everything that I have,” said the Mormon mum-influencer.
Now, she’s spoken about her fears of getting kicked out of her church community because of her escapades.
Taylor, mum to Indy, Ocean, and Ever, opened up about the scandal on Hulu‘s hit show, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
Chatting to a friend, Taylor, from Utah, the US, asked whether she thought the Mormon was ”a bad person”.
Having a one-to-one, the friend replied: ”I don’t think you’re a bad person.
Polygamy, or having more than one marital partner, was taught by the leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for more than half of the 19th century.
The tradition was stopped over a century ago and mainstream churches even excommunicate anyone who practices it.
Despite this, many people still hold the misconception that all Mormons are involved in polygamous relationships.
That being said, there are fundamentalist offshoots of the mainstream Mormon Church which still continue to practice polygamy.
”I just think that you’ve done a lot of bad things and that have made you look bad.”
In the chat, uploaded to YouTube, Taylor also confessed she hasn’t talked about it with the bishop or the church, as she was fearing the potential consequences.
”What if they’re gonna excommunicate me?”
Although not much is known about the eventful antics, one of the woman had come across rumours about oral sex in front of everyone, leaving fellow stars totally shocked and horrified.
Founded in 19th century America and boasting around 16 million followers around the world, Mormonism is centred on traditional family life and values.
“Sins” such as gambling, smoking, drinking alcohol, drugs, tea, coffee, homosexuality, pornography, and sex outside of marriage are forbidden.
Those following Mormonism hold fast to the belief that God has a physical presence and is married and able to have children.
The community also believes that mankind can become gods after they pass away.
After the scandal took the internet and community by storm, the mum hit back, saying ”no one was innocent, everyone has hooked up with everyone in the situation”.
‘‘So yes, I’m getting shunned… but it wasn’t like I was going around hooking up with my friends husband.
”We were at a party, I got belligerent, and we went and messed around by ourselves rather than with the whole group… it was a one-time thing because we were so gone.’’
Swinging is not accepted in the religion – in fact members are meant to abide by the so-called law of chastity which says that ”outside of marriage between a man and a woman, it is wrong to touch the private, sacred parts of another person’s body even if clothed”.
