ROKU TV owners have finally received a feature that Amazon Fire Stick owners have had for years.
And it’s perfect if you’ve grown tired of Roku’s purple cityscape screen saver, or the odd Pluto advert.
The TV-maker has introduced a new set of backdrops for consumers to decorate their screens with.
The backdrops will show pictures of classic works of art from the likes of Claude Monet, as well as breathtaking photos of natural landscapes.
It means viewers can have a priceless piece of art as the centerpiece of their lounge when their telly is on standby.
“Viewers can also learn more about the artwork, including artist name, year it was created, and a brief description for each image, even cycle in photos from their personal collection to display on the largest screen in their home,” Roku said as part of its announcement.
“Whether wanting to relive that unforgettable sunsets captured or showcase a favorite piece of art, the choice is in the hands of the viewer.”
There are apparently “thousands” of artworks to choose from, so there is hope of finding something that gels better with the design choices of your living room.
It’s important to note that this feature is currently only available on Roku-branded TVs and third-party Roku TV sets.
Other Roku streaming devices, like the popular Roku Stick, will have to wait until “later in the fall” to receive it.
The Verge noted that the Roku Backdrop feature is eerily similar to Samsung’s The Frame concept.
This saw consumers cast artwork onto Samsung TVs that sit inside a frame on the wall or in an easel.
The chic alternative TV placement – which sought to disguise the screen from view – gripped social media influencers, who raced out to buy them in droves.
That being said, art or landscape photography isn’t everybody’s jam.
You don't have to rely on Roku to pick out a library of photos for you.
Customers can upload photos from their latest family holiday, or loving snaps of their pet to set as the wallpaper on their Roku TV.
If you have a 4K model, you can download and use the Roku Official Remote app to upload pictures from your phone or tablet onto the TV.
Here’s how you can do it:
Open the Roku app > tap the Devices tab > select your device > tap the Media section > then click the Screensaver option > select the pictures you want to show > tap Next > Set options > hit Set Screensaver to confirm.
Once the images have loaded to your Roku TV, make sure the Mobile Screensaver is selected as the screensaver on your telly.
