A RETRO skincare routine that can be done using drugstore buys left a beauty fan with an enviably glowing complexion.
The 32-year-old admitted she was surprised by the dramatic improvement in the appearance of her skin.
A Reddit user revealed the 1940s beauty routine that improved the appearance of her skin (stock image)[/caption]She told members of Reddit’s 30 Plus Skincare forum that she transformed her appearance by using “classic no-frills products.”
She was on YouTube when she found a 1940s tutorial on how to apply and remove makeup.
“While I ignored most of it, I was inspired by the makeup removal part and made it my new nightly routine,” she said, writing under the handle Notfeelingworky.
“Use Ponds Cold Cream (I use the unscented version) and rub into the skin
“Use a clean, damp washcloth with warm water and wipe makeup off.
“Rinse face with warm water and a mild soap (I use the classic fragrance-free Liquid Neutrogena The Transparent Facial Cleanser).
“Moisturize (I use Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+).
“Finish with some eye cream for bonus points.”
The products mentioned each cost less than $20 at Walmart.
She revealed they weren’t the only budget-friendly buys that made a difference to her skin.
“I bought a pack of 30 white washcloths from Costco for about $12 and only use them on my face and use a clean one each time,” she said.
“No more disposable makeup wipes (better for the environment too).
“That’s it! These products and methods have been around forever and I couldn’t believe how much better my skin looks.
“My skin wasn’t bad before, but it just looked dull. Now my skin has a healthy glow!”
Before discovering the tutorial, she had been reliant on makeup wipes to remove her makeup followed by Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser and a German version of Nivea Creme.

Hundreds of people praised the beauty enthusiast for sharing her skincare routine and shared their opinions.
One person said their aunt uses Ponds daily and is often mistaken for being up to two decades younger than her age.
Another revealed cold cream has been a “game changer” for their acne-prone skin.
“I recently switched to Ponds too and my skin has never been so luminous and hydrated!!” a third said.
“I wish I had discovered cold cream years ago!” another wrote.
“My face has always been ruddy and prone to breakouts and it turns out soap is the main culprit.
“I’m never giving up my ponds! I only use it at night if my skin is feeling greasy, otherwise my face gets too shiny.”
According to Healthline, a night skincare routine should consist of “thicker products” that help to repair damage caused during the day.
It is also the best time to use products that increase skin sensitivity to sunlight such as exfoliants and chemical peels.
The basic steps involve a makeup remover, using a cleanser to get rid of dirt, and a spot treatment to target breakouts.
These steps should be followed by a rich cream or mask that moisturizes and repairs the skin.
According to experts, it’s “never too early or late” to develop a skincare routine.
