A HOMEOWNER revealed how she saved thousands on her kitchen upgrade using TikTok.
She explained that the transformation only cost her £302 after she learned to do the work herself.
Ugne Litvinaite, 29, bought her two-bedroom house in Peterborough, Cambs., almost three years ago.
Recently, she decided she wanted to modernize her kitchen, a room she hadn’t touched since she moved in.
However, when shopping around at the likes of Wren Kitchens, Ugne realised it was going to cost her anywhere between £3,000 to £4,500 to do up the space.
Instead of forking out, Ugne watched several renovation videos on TikTok and decided to give it a go herself.
She spent most of June working on her kitchen and only spent a total of £302.
“It was definitely cheaper than what I expected,” said Ugne, who works as a manager for an insurtech company.
“So far I have spent £302 on the renovation.”
However, she has another step she wants to carry out before completing her kitchen.
“I still want to install vinyl flooring which will cost me around another £150,” she explained.
“I’m super happy with the results.”
The transformation has included the installation of a boiler cupboard and a wine rack, which cost £170.
Ugne primed and painted the cupboards and a wall for the total sum of £92.
She also added new cupboard handles for £22.
Ugne borrowed the tools for sanding down the surfaces before priming and painting from her dad, so she didn’t have to buy any equipment.
The kitchen counters were then wrapped in vinyl, which cost just £18 from B&Q.
The ultimate guide for homeowners and renters:
Ugne was relatively inexperienced in the world of DIY renovations, but said the savings are a good motivator.
“I recently decorated me and my boyfriend’s bedroom,” she added.
“I tried out my skills at doing the panelling which was a lot easier than I thought.”
And she doesn’t plan on stopping her handywork any time soon.
“Next up is the living room,” she said.
“I’ve build additional storage and will be repainting the walls and fitting new flooring.
“Again, something I haven’t done before.”
