CHEESECAKE has been voted Britain’s favourite teatime treat – even beating the classic Victoria sponge.
Chocolate cake and carrot cake came in second and third places respectively, followed by lemon drizzle then the sponge and jam classic.
Waitrose also revealed online searches for cheesecake have risen by 53 per cent in a month and sales of its sharing cheesecakes have risen by 20 per cent in the past two weeks.
So if you don’t have time to make your own, which supermarket offering is the tastiest?

JUST the right hint of vanilla but the texture should have been lighter and creamier.
The biscuity base was cooked perfectly and didn’t crumble away. It had a delicious bite and was soft and buttery.
The slices are a great option if just want a portion but you could pick up a whole cake at other supermarkets for the same cost.

I LOVED the topping. It was rich, creamy and had a lovely fresh feeling.
It looked lovely too – you could almost pass this off as homemade.
My only complaint is the base had a strangely oaty taste and was a little thick and had a dense feeling to it.
It’s a real shame the base let this down as it is a great price.

CREAMY with a lovely vanilla flavour. The texture is light and airy and I found it incredibly moreish.
The base cuts splendidly and doesn’t crumble into a mess as others did.
Size wise, it is a smaller round but much deeper than other supermarket offerings.
Calorific, but you get a good-sized slice. My favourite.

NO vanilla cheesecake on offer at Morrisons so I went for this lemon one, which was fruity and delicious.
The lemon was zingy with a lovely after taste and it wasn’t too sweet.
It had a nice mousse-like texture.
The base was a little too crumbly though and I felt it needed more butter to bind it.

APPETISING appearance but it was heavily covered in icing sugar, which made it rather too sweet and verging on sickly.
The vanilla flavour wasn’t strong enough for me and, overall, I found it to be a little bland.
It would be all right if you added some fruit and cream but on its own it was disappointing.

LOOKS very similar to the M&S cheesecake with the same Madagascan vanilla flavouring and visible seeds.
As I tucked in, I found it very similar too.
The base was buttery and delicious while the topping was thick and creamy enough to leave cheesecake fans happy. Cheaper than M&S.

I COULD only find frozen options at Lidl, which means you need to remember to get it out of the freezer four or five hours before you want to eat it, ideally overnight.
It has a good proportion of cake filling to the base, which has a sweet vanilla taste with a sour tang.
But it was too crumbly without any crunch.

I WAS really disappointed with the base. The biscuit part just crumbled away.
It was too soft and just turned to mush as I tried to cut it.
The topping should have been creamy but was more greasy and I could hardly taste the vanilla at all.
Don’t waste your calories on this. Try a Victoria sponge instead!
