MCDONALD’S popular Monopoly game is set to return to all restaurants today, giving customers the chance to win big.
The competition will run for six weeks and end in October, but until then diners can get their hands on a range of prizes by peeling stickers found on food items bought in stores.
There are three different ways to play including collecting the stickers, instant win and digital peel.
This year, everything from free food, holidays and a £100k cash prizes are on the table to be won.
Those who wish to take part in the Monopoly game collect stickers from their food packaging that represent train stations or colour coordinated road names – much like the classic game
However, not all menu items are worth the same amount, and this determines how you redeem a prize.
For example, instant win food prizes can be redeemed at any McDonald’s branch by handing the token over at the counter when you order.
You’ll need to hand the game pieces over to a member of staff when you collect your meal.
Also not all food items feature the peelable stickers.
You will find McDonald Monopoly stickers on the below items:
If you do not want to visit a store to play you can also order online via UberEats.
If you order the menu items above they should come with a stickers you can peel off and collect.
If you chose to take part in the game you will have to buy one or more of the McDonald’s menu items listed above.
Some of the stickers you find will be more rare than other, and can increase your chance of winning a more valuable prize.
The Sun recently published an article about all the rare pieces, which you can check out here.
There are three different types of prizes you can win and they have been divided into three groups.
If you get multiple stickers, you can try to collect property sets that will put you in line to win some big prizes.
These are stickers which feature prizes you can get a hold off immediately in the store.
They usually include a fruit bag or another menu item.
Peel off the sticker you get when you buy a McDonald’s item to see if you have won an instant prize.
But be aware there is an expiry date on which you can claim the instant prize so be sure to check the sticker so you don’t miss out
Everything you need to know...
You need to download the McDonald’s app on your Android or Apple device to access this game.
Players can earn a free digital peel by scanning their physical stickers into the app, which gives them more chances to win.
Look for a code on your online game piece to get the chance to take home some prizes.
While the fast food chain is well known for its fries, you can increase your chances of winning by avoiding the classic.
The sides of salad, veg or fruit bag which you can have as part of a meal come in three pieces.
Fries however come with only two game pieces in a meal.
Campaigners slammed Maccies in previous years for encouraging unhealthy choices which led to a shake-up.
In 2019 (the last time the game ran) the pieces were added to the fruit, veg and salad products for the first time.
Game pieces come with a code to play games on the app, but you might want to avoid lunch and dinner time.
There are two cash prizes up for grabs per minute and non-cash prizes are “allocated across the hours in that day at random subject to due weighting to take account of anticipated rates of game-play at different times of the day” according to the rules.
In other words, the more people playing the less chance there is to win, so play at less busy times.
Many people won’t be playing the Monopoly game or even bother to check the pieces they have, according to MoneySavingExpert.com.
If you spot empty packets or cups on tables, it’s worth checking to see if there is a tile you can use.
This practice is known as “wombling”, though it’s not always approved by companies, but millions of people do it across the country.
Has anyone actually won the big prizes? We explain how it all works.
To coincide with the return of its sticker peeling event a number of favourites are coming back on the menu.
These include Mozzarella Dippers and the Philly Cheese Stack.
Other popular treats making a return include the Chicken Big Mac, Galaxy Chocolate McFlurry and the Twix Chocolate McFlurry.
It will also begin selling a brand new Twix Latte, which features chocolate cream and syrup.
The menu shakeup will happen on September 4, when McDonald’s Monopoly returns, and will run for six weeks.
