RESIST splashing out on new outfits and only buy pre-loved this month.
Second-hand September is a campaign started by Oxfam that encourages people to give clothes a new lease of life rather than sending items to landfill.
Give clothes a new lease of life rather than sending items to landfill[/caption]Here is how to get involved . . .
CHOICES: There are many ways to shop pre-loved, from browsing charity shops to scrolling through second-hand sites or apps such as eBay, Depop and Vinted.
Clear your wardrobe and get new items without spending a penny with clothing swaps. Go through theswapshopuk.com or browse eventbrite.com for exchanges near you.
TOP TIPS: You can find second-hand items that are more durable or high-quality brands at an affordable price.
For example, wool or cashmere coats that will last the distance.
Sizing can be an issue when buying online. Knowing your measurements means you can then ask sellers the exact lengths of the garments for sale.
Or you can buy used items from your favourite brands that you know will always fit.
Making a wishlist of what you need can make searching through sites easier. And filter by brand, style and colour.
REWARDS: If you don’t fancy selling your own clothes to make extra cash, you can donate for rewards instead with selected brands.
Give old items to any Oxfam shop and you will receive a £5 M&S voucher if you are giving away at least one M&S-labelled item.
Or take a bag of old clothes or textiles from any brand to any H&M store and you’ll also get a £5 digital voucher to spend.
You can take unwanted shoes to Schuh stores and get £5 to spend with the brand for each pair donated.
Shoes can be worn but can’t be damaged beyond repair.
Just be aware the vouchers from donations have a minimum spend attached to them of between £25-£35.
