A PARANOID homeowner has put up driveway bollards to keep a car safe from thieves but is being mocked over the safety measure.
A picture of a drive showing a pair of bollards in front of a car has been branded pointless by social media users laughing at the move.
The image was posted to X by Birmingham resident Dr Helen Ingram, with a single car supposedly protected by the two theft-prevention bollards at the driveway entrance.
Dr Ingram sarcastically wrote: “These bollards should keep their car secure.”
It’s since gone viral because there is still plenty of open space either side of the barriers to drive off with the car.
Reacting to the post, an X user said it was “pointless”.
They said: “Got a similar example a few streets away from us.
“Two driveways side by side, no barrier between them but only one has a security pole. Absolutely pointless.”
Another added: “No car thief worth his salt would drive over the grass.”
A third humorous comment said: “Job’s a good ‘un as long as it also has ‘Keep Off The Grass’ signs too.”
But some took the matter seriously.
One user backed the bollards, trying to argue they’d be an effective deterrent.
The comment said: “You’re missing a rather obvious point. It is based on a two car configuration.
“Once both are in the drive, there is no room for manoeuvre.
“It is also used for caravans and camper vans. Not to mention commercial vans.”
But someone quickly refuted with stinging sarcasm: “None of which of course, could possibly drive over grass.”
Dr Ingram, the original poster, couldn’t believe how many feathers she’d ruffled.
She said: “People getting genuinely angry about this is sending me off.”
Another comment from an account called the Department of Social Engineering, Censorship and Satire saw the funny side.
It said: “Helen, our research shows that the thing that matters most to car thieves is tidy lawns, and they will not, under any circumstances, damage them.”
