A BEAUTY brand founder has shed light on a serious skincare issue that can speed up the aging process.
She also wants to help you avoid some common mistakes when caring for more mature skin.
Amanda McIntosh, founder of Take My Face Off, pictured, shared her tips for taking years off of your appearance[/caption]Amanda McIntosh, founder of Take My Face Off, can’t believe people are turning a blind eye to an important factor that can add years to your look.
“Here’s something I’m not seeing people talk about – eye health,” she told The U.S. Sun.
“I don’t just mean the skin around your eyes – I mean your actual eyes. Eye health is important in general, but like your teeth, eyes have a huge impact on how you look.”
While she admitted that noticeably bloodshot, red-rimmed, and watery eyes can’t be corrected with mere makeup, there are ways to prevent some issues by keeping up healthy habits.
Eye health might continue to deteriorate with age, but between her beauty expertise and conversations with an actual eye doctor, she has devised some age-defying techniques.
“You have to remove all of your eye makeup before going to sleep,” she said.
No matter how tired you might be, there is no excuse for being lazy when it comes to your nightly routine.
This advice is especially crucial for mascara since it’s so close to the tear ducts.
McIntosh’s beauty brand is known for its mittys, ultra-soft and effective cleansing alternative to washcloths.
They fit to your hand or your fingers and last for years.
For easy makeup removal, she recommends the brand’s Mitty Detailer, which has a tip that said is perfect for “small areas like the eyes and lash line.”
She shared how it’s safe to use on lash extensions and even has a fun factor as it is available in a variety of color options.
Her other anti-aging tips, which are designed to help you come in first place in the battle against Father Time, include avoiding liner application to the inside rim on a daily basis.
She wants you to reserve this step for “special occasions.”
She is also a fan of a find that will help your eyes feel better.

“A lot of sunscreens make your eyes water, yet you don’t want to leave that skin exposed to the sun,” she said.
“I love the Supergroop Bright Eyes Sunscreen Eye Cream. The tint is so sheer it would probably work for any skin tone,” she added.
The daytime eye cream/concealer is her “dream product.”
The beauty pro also referred to Bausch and Lomb’s Lumify drops as a “game-changer.”
She does, however, warn that they can irritate the eyes, so she makes sure not to use them on a regular basis.

McIntosh admitted that even she is guilty of another aging mistake.
“I spend a lot of time photographing people removing makeup – all of us yank at our faces like elastic bands!” she said.
“We all need to be gentler on our skin during cleansing, especially around the eye area.”
She also never forgot a pro trick she always keeps in her back beauty pocket.
“Here’s a tip I got from a great makeup artist – saturate your eye makeup remover cloth with liquid, and then press it to your closed eye for a few seconds,” she said.
“You want the liquid to really sit on your lashes and eyelids. When the makeup is still dry, it won’t come off, and you’ll rub too hard.”
She also wants you to focus on your food intake and hydration, which is tied to your skin health.
“If you notice something you eat or drink doesn’t make you feel good, or makes you tired, or makes your face puffy, eliminate it from your life,” she said.
In other words, if food doesn’t agree with your body, your skin will suffer.
McIntosh made clear that she has no time for trends.
“Let other people be the guinea pigs and try everything out,” she said.
“So many fads wind up being disproven later. The more invasive or unusual the new treatment is, the more I’m going to wait for more clinical research.
While she admitted that it’s “tempting” to try all the latest brands and products, she knows that this can wreak havoc on the skin.
“Find the products that work for you and rotate new ones gradually. Skincare is a long game, and you win by being consistent,” she said.
“If you use moisturizer, sunscreen, and retinol (if your skin can take it) every day, you’re in great shape.”
She thinks you should “build your routine” on proven brands and not change more than one element at a time.
“Sunscreen and AHAs/retinols/vitamin C products are hard to formulate. I’m not saying you can’t try new ones, but choose these carefully,” she said.
“Play around with eyeshadow and lipstick, but not sunscreen.”
