SANDESH Gulhane is the husband of Strictly Come Dancing star Punam Krishan.
But Sandesh has had his own career both in healthcare and politics. Here’s everything you need to know.
Sandesh Gulhane is a GP and Conservative Member of the Scottish Parliament.
He is married to Punam Krishan, a fellow GP and the presenter of the BBC’s Laid Bare.
Both Punam and Sandesh are outspoken about the need to support the NHS.
Punam told BBC Radio Scotland’s Sunday Show that healthcare workers have had “no stop, no break, no respite”.
Sandesh and Punam got married in 2011 and had one ceremony in India and one in the UK.
They said that they had a medley of Indian, Scottish and English music playing.
Sandesh also said that this medley included a Michael Jackson song.
Sandesh is a Conservative Member of the Scottish Parliament who represents the Glasgow region.
He is the first Hindu and first man of Indian descent to be elected to the Scottish Parliament.
Sandesh became the Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care in September 2021.
He still works one-day-a-week as a GP and has voiced support for the “principles” behind assisted dying.
Sandesh and Punam have two children together.
They have a son named Aanish and a daughter called Ellora.
The couple keep their children out of the private eye, but sometimes share snaps of the family on Instagram.
Sandesh spoke at length about how working during lockdown put a strain on him as a parent.
He told Holyrood: “When my lockdown baby was born, I stayed away because of the fear of passing COVID to her.
“I did not hug her for eight weeks, my newborn baby, but I kept seeing my patients.
“I kept my distance from my seven-year-old son because of the fear of passing COVID to him.
“One day, he asked my wife why I didn’t love him anymore, had he done something wrong?
“But like my nursing colleagues, I kept seeing my patients.”
