AN COUNTRY just a few hours from the UK has been dubbed “Africa’s affordable answer to the Caribbean” – and deals won’t break the bank either.
Cape Verde has become one of the most sought-after destinations for Brits – probably thanks to the almost guaranteed sunshine and temperatures above 25C all year round.
Cape Verde has been dubbed “Africa’s affordable answer to the Caribbean” and it’s only a few hours from the UK[/caption]The country is made up of ten islands in the central Atlantic Ocean, just off the coast of West Africa.
Out of those, Sal and Boa Vista are the two that draw the greatest number of tourists. They boast countless miles of sandy beaches, nightlife, and lots of cheap restaurants and activities.
Elsewhere, Santiago is the most populated island and home to the capital, Praia.
Santo Antão has been described as one of the most beautiful islands, but also a “hidden gem”, since most people opt to visit the other islands.
The best time to visit is between November and April when it’s considered “dry season”.
However, temperatures in Cape Verde rarely drop below 25C, even during the wet season and winter.
Average temperatures rest around 25C to 27C, reaching highs of 33C during the summer.
Although there will be a slightly higher chance of rain, September and October are an excellent time to bag some cheap deals.
So, here are some of the most budget-friendly holiday packages we could find:
Once you’re there, there are plenty of activities to keep everyone occupied, with anything from watersports and fishing to hiking trails and excursions.
Speaking of water activities, Boa Vista is known as one of the best places to spot humpback whales.
Away from the shore, the island’s dunes are often likened to the Sahara and are accessible to adventurers on 4x4s.
When it comes to nightlife, local spots with live music and dancing are usually the safest bet to fully appreciate the culture.
We’ve also revealed all you need to know about travelling to Cape Verde, including its official currency (Cape Verdean escudo) and weather throughout the year.
For more holiday deals, British Airways launched a new sale with discounted city breaks and beach holidays to 80 destinations.
Meanwhile, last-minute beach holidays to Spain can be found for £135 – with temperatures still hitting 26C.
Alternatively, for something closer to home, Warner Hotels launched adults-only festive stays with performances by Gareth Malone and theatre shows.
