GAVIN and Stacey stars have started to get excited after a new selfie from Rob Brydon.
The Welsh actor, who plays Uncle Bryn on the beloved BBC series, shared a picture with co-star and show creator Ruth Jones on Instagram to mark a major show moment.
Teasing fans with the caption: “Something’s occurring…” with a hashtag for the show, the picture marks the table read for the final ever episode.
Ruth – who plays Nessa on the show – confirmed alongside fellow co-creator James Corden that Gavin and Stacey will return for the final time this Christmas.
The episode promises to be the crown jewel in the BBC’s Christmas Day programming.
Filming commenced this week in the show’s native of Barry, Wales.
But the picture has got fans overwhelmingly thrilled about what the future will bring – with many flocking to the comments quoting the show to share their excitement.
“This is better than Oasis getting back together,” wrote one, while another added: “That’s lush that is. ”
“OH MY CHRIST , Can’t wait until you film in my hometown in barry,” said a third.
“Oooo Brynn that’s cracking,” noted a fourth.
Gavin and Stacey was last seen on screen in 2019 for what was originally billed as a one-off Christmas episode.
The special was the first time we had an update on the Essex/Welsh family since 2009 when the series originally ended.
However, with a cliffhanger leaving two of the characters’ futures in the balance after a last-second proposal, fans were demanding to know what happened.
In May this year, creators James Corden and Ruth Jones confirmed with a photograph that fans will finally get their wish, but noted this would be the last ever episode of the comedy juggernaut.
Holding a script, the pair simply wrote: “See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James.”
Rob later admitted on Chris Evans’ radio show he was ‘moved to tears’ after finally getting his hands on the top secret script.
“It was a couple of months before the cast saw the script. I only saw it, we were on holiday, we were away, about a month ago,” he explained.
“I read it. Oh, it’s so good,” he told Chris Evans, who cheekily suggested that Rob might be saying that because he has to.
“No, I kind of wouldn’t, actually. I don’t want to tempt fate, but I think it’s fantastic,” Rob asserted, later adding: “Do you know what? I was moved to tears, because it’s emotional.”
Chris Evans asked how excited he was to reunite with the cast, to which Brydon replied, “I really am, because I know this will be the last time we’ll all be together.
“We all get on so well. And I think it has been 17 years since we started, which is crazy.”
