THE FATE of a rebooted reality show has now been revealed after being axed by the BBC.
Canal Boat Diaries followed the explorer Robbie Cumming, as he embarked on a 300-mile journey across the UK.
BBC Four previously aired four series of the hit show as the presenter travelled to the Midlands and North of England in his narrowboat.
Robbie, 42, was originally an illustrator who rose to fame online when he started vlogging his boating adventures.
He became famous as he cruised through new towns, which led to the publicly funded corporation giving him a show of his own.
However, after four series the BBC decided that it would not air any new instalments.
UKTV came to the rescue and the fifth series was one of their strongest ever box set launches on the free streaming platform, U.
Now, the TV network has commissioned a new 10-part series of Canal Boat Diaries after they licensed the format rights from the BBC.
The new set of episodes will air on the leading factual channel U&Yesterday, but it will also be available for on the free streaming service, U.
The new series will see Robbie explore various areas in the south of the country.
He explore the delights of Berkshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, and Wiltshire before embarking on a huge twist.
It promises to take Robbie back to his roots before he started filming all his adventures as the star will end up where it all began.
He couldn’t help but get excited at the prospect as he admitted: “For me this is going to be about having fun and enjoying my journey as much as possible.
“In May 2025 I will have travelled in my narrowboat home for a full decade.
“So, to celebrate this I’ll be retracing my very first journey – albeit in reverse and with some rivers and canals I’ve never been on before.
Robbie added: “In the last series I encountered some of the most challenging canals I’ve ever waded through, spent a lot of time down the weed hatch, broke windows, lost equipment, got stuck in locks and dropped my phone in the canal.
“So, who knows what will happen – I’m just hoping for a bit more luck this time!”
