MCDONALD’S lovers have been treated to a new limited edition milkshake that has landed in the UK for the very first time.
The blueberry flavour Grimace Shake, is already a hit in the US, and went viral on TikTok when it launched in the region last year.
Customers in Britain, now have a chance to see what the hype is about, with the sweet treat landing in McDonald’s 1,450 stores as of today, August 28.
It is named after the McDonald’s Grimace mascot, who was first introduced in 1970’s.
He was originally an evil character who stole milkshakes from customers, but was later rebranded as a more friendly face of the fast-food chain.
McDonald’s already has three core milkshake flavours, Strawberry, Banana and Chocolate, so a brand new creamy drink to try will be welcome news to punters.
The home of the Big Mac has shaken up its drink menu before, but it has mostly been to introduce new Frappe flavours, such as the Biscoff Frappe which was rolled out for a limited time earlier this year.
So when I heard talk of a brand new milkshake flavour landing in stores, I was keen to get a taste.
The sweet treat is purple and features a blueberry-flavoured syrup blended with a creamy milkshake base.
It is also a bit more expensive than the traditional milkshakes at McDonald’s costing £2.69 for a medium and £2.99 for a large.
This is compared to £1.99 for a regular medium shake at McDonald’s and £2.19 for a large.
First things first, you can really taste the fruity syrup in this drink it hits you straightaway.
If you are not a fan of blueberry flavoured sweets or pastries, this is definitely not going to be one for you.
It also smells very strongly of blueberry muffins, which again will be off putting if you are not a fan.
But lovers of the fruit would really enjoy this drink.
Out of all the Maccies milkshakes I think this one taste the most similar to the fruit it is inspired by.
Much like its description, the drink is really thick and creamy and the texture is what I would imagine a traditional American milkshake to taste like.
It was almost as thick as an ice-cream and a lot creamier than its coffee-based iced frappes.
I found this drink too sweet for my personal taste and the mix of the cream with the blueberry syrup was a bit too overpowering for me.
I usually like when fruit is blended with cream, especially in desserts, but for some reason this just did not appeal to my pallet.
I think anyone with a sweet tooth would enjoy drink, and it is a nice alternative to what is already on the menu.

What the drink reminded me most of was a tub of Haagen-Dazs blueberries and cream.
They are both almost the same shade of purple as well.
The posh ice cream costs £5.40 and a regular shake at McDonald’s cost £2.69.
Even a large version of the shake at £2.99, costs less than the ice-cream, though prices can vary depending on location.
But this is a limited edition menu item so you wont have much time to get your hands on it and make a saving.
The Grimace Shake is set to vanish from menus in just a week’s time.
This means you will have to grab one before September 4.
The shake is just one of many new menu items set to arrive in McDonald’s stores over the coming weeks.
The home of the Big Mac is switching up its menu to welcome back its infamous Monopoly game.
Players who take part in Monopoly can collect stickers from their food packaging that represent train stations or colour co-ordinated road names – much like the classic game.
But not all menu items are worth the same amount, and this determines how you redeem a prize.
For example, instant win food prizes can be redeemed at any McDonald’s branch by handing the token over at the counter when you order.
You’ll need to hand the game pieces over to a member of staff when you collect your meal.
To coincide with the return of its sticker peeling event a number of favourites are coming back on the menu.
These include Mozzarella Dippers and the Philly Cheese Stack.
Other popular treats making a return include the Chicken Big Mac, Galaxy Chocolate McFlurry and the Twix Chocolate McFlurry.
It will also begin selling a brand new Twix Latte, which features chocolate cream and syrup.
The menu shakeup will happen on September 4, when McDonald’s Monopoly returns, and will run for six weeks.
You might not think it, but you can end up being charged more solely based on the McDonald’s restaurant you choose.
Research by The Sun found a Big Mac meal can be up to 30p cheaper at restaurants just two miles apart from each other.
Meanwhile, you can pick up a Big Mac and fries for just £2.99 by filling in a feedback survey found on any old McDonald’s receipt.
The receipt should come with a 12-digit code which you can enter into the Food for Thought website alongside your submitted survey.
You’ll then receive a five-digit code which is your voucher for the £2.99 offer.
