One of Love is Blind’s most loved (and once loved-up) couples came face-to-face again recently in an ‘awkward’ encounter.
Together again to film the reunion for Netflix’s hit TV show, Love is Blind, hosts Matt and Emma Willis welcomed back the 30 contestants to see how their year had been since saying ‘I do’.
The reality TV show quickly became a hit after viewers watched soon-to-be couples get to know each other in ‘pods’, only able to talk through speakers, without seeing each other.
Couples can only meet face-to-face after a marriage proposal is accepted.
And while viewers were head over heels with Sabrina Vittoria and Steven Smith walking down the aisle, it seems that the pressures of real life had seen them fall out of love just as quickly as they had fallen in.
London-based CrossFit gym owner Steven, 37, married marketing professional Sabrina, 35, from Belfast, after the couple bonded over their love for family.
However, in a tense TV reunion, it seems having a family of their own is no longer on the cards.
Emma and Matt asked the pair what led to the demise of their relationship – and neither held back, with Sabrina highlighting the long-distance had caused more than a bump in the road for the couple.
Sabrina said: ‘We had agreed we would split our time between Belfast and London for the first year but that wasn’t the original plan and the communication was awful and there was no consistency in Steven’s behaviour towards me and the relationship.”
With Steven admitting they had ‘underestimated’ the pressures of living so far apart he said they had: “Lost the spark.”
After travelling to London seven times, Sabrina said Steven had only visited her twice.
‘I accept that is where I let the side down, but I needed to take opportunities because of my business,’ he said.
However it seemed it wasn’t just the travelling that was a problem, but the lack of support from her spouse, with Sabrina saying he ‘didn’t make any adjustments’ in his life for her.
She said: “When you came to Belfast you wanted to go to the gym, so I paid for a car for you. I don’t drink tea or coffee, but I got it for you in the house and spent £70 on groceries. You wanted an ironing board and I got you one to have at mine. I was doing everything I could to make the relationship work and I felt like you made zero accommodations in your life for me.
She also said her husband had hardly ever called or texted her during their marriage.
Stephen retaliated by saying: “A lot of the things are not facts, and I don’t recognise who you are at the moment.”
After admitting Stephen had left her two days before Christmas by telling her to ‘Get over it,’ there was one thing the couple could agree on.
After watching the collapse of their love story months after they split, the pair both admitted to finding it hard.
Sabrina said it was ‘triggering’, while Steven said he cried ‘multiple times’.
He also admitted: “I am not a perfect person and can see where my shortcomings are.”
The pair had become the show’s golden couple, with Steven vowing at the altar: “I promise to always make you my No. 1, to be the hug before you realise you need it. You stole my mind, and my heart, and now I give you my unconditional love.”
Sabrina vowed to love Steven “every day and have the patience that love requires on the more challenging days.”
She told him: “There’s so much we don’t know, and our journey has just begun, but in your arms I have found a home. I want you to know that I choose you today and every day for the rest of our lives. I love you.”
The couple’s wedding was a legal ceremony that was filmed for the show, meaning the couple will need to get an annulment or divorce to end it.
