She concluded her statement by expressing her gratitude for the love and support she has received and asked for privacy during her time of grieving.
Fans flocked to social media to share their condolences to the star.
“We are with you, Mariah,” one person wrote.
Another added, “Stay strong.”
In the past, Mariah has been open about her relationships with her siblings Alison and brother Morgan.
In her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, she explained that it was “emotionally and physically safer for me not to have any contact” with her brother and sister.
On August 26, 2024, Mariah Carey revealed to People that her mom Patricia and sister Alison died on the same day.
“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend,” she started.
“Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.
“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed.”
“I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time,” she concluded.
In a 2020 interview with Oprah Winfrey’s Apple TV+ series The Oprah Conversation, Mariah discussed the relationship with her family while Oprah read snippets from her book.
The singer described her brother as “extremely violent” and Alison “troubled” and “traumatized.”
“I tried to be thoughtful about that, although, I don’t know that the same courtesy has been extended to me from anybody that caused certain traumatic events in my life,” she said.
In her book, Mariah claimed that her siblings would “sell lies” to magazines and “attacked” her for decades.
Oprah recited a paragraph from the memoir, “When I was 12 years old, my sister drugged me with valium, offered me a pinky nail full of cocaine, inflicted me with third-degree burns, and tried to sell me out to a pimp.”
Oprah asked Mariah what she thought the source of her siblings’ pain was.
“We don’t even really know each other, we didn’t grow up together, but we did.
“Like, they were on their journeys, by the time I got into the world, they had already been damaged, in my opinion.
“But again, I wasn’t there. I was dropped into this world and I literally felt like an outsider amongst my own family.
“They just grew up with the experience of living with a Black father and a white mother together as a family and I was for the most part living with my mother, which they saw as easier, but in reality it was not.
“They have always thought that my life was easy,” she said.
In response to Mariah’s claims, both of her siblings filed lawsuits.
In February 2021, TMZ reported that Alison claimed she suffered emotional distress after reading Mariah’s memoir.
She sued the star for $1.2 million and denied Mariah’s claims that she gave her valium and tried to pimp her out.
At the time, Alison said that she was “humiliated and embarrassed” by the “outrageous” accusations.
One month later, Morgan sued Mariah for defamation and emotional distress caused by her memoir claiming that he was allegedly violent.
In the case, Morgan claimed that he suffered “extreme mental anguish” and her memoir did “serious damage to his reputation.”
It remains unclear how Alison’s lawsuit concluded, but Morgan’s case is still active according to New York Supreme Court documents.
