A DIYER has found a way to copy the scents of pricey perfumes.
She shared her frugal fragrance trick that she makes for a fraction of the cost of designer brands.
A fan of pricey perfumes has shared how she was able to copy designer scents for a fraction of the cost (stock image)[/caption]Redditor Timblerss might have been a fan of expensive smells, but she didn’t want to splurge on them.
“I love perfume but I can’t see myself spending more than $30 on perfume,” she explained in a post.
Instead, she learned how to make any eau de parfum scent from perfume oils.
“You can find most dupes of the name brand fragrances with a lot of oil perfume companies, and most of them smell spot on or very close to,” she said.
“The oils range anywhere from $3 to $30, depending on what size and site you purchase from,” she added.
She was especially impressed with the oils she had found from a seller on Etsy that she thought were “amazing.”
“I know a lot of people could care less about perfume, but for those that love them but can’t afford them/don’t want to spend that kind of money, this is a godsend,” she said.
She shared how she was even able to replicate a perfume buy she had been obsessing over for a while.
“I’ve been wanting Guilty by Gucci forever but I didn’t want to drop $200 on it,” she said.
“The oil I got from [Elegant Body Oils] was spot on though, so I am very happy,” she added.
It definitely cost much less than the floral Gucci find that is available at Sephora for $135 and is described as offering hints of mandora and pink pepper.
While the Etsy shop she had originally discovered has since closed, another affordable shop, Creation Are Us, sells designer knock-off oils for just $5.
The store has hundreds of positive reviews.
She explained how she puts the oil in a lotion but plans on making her own perfume spray.
“I’ve been using them with an unscented lotion and mix them in, then I add a drop of the oil onto my wrist to add more of a concentrated smell,” she said.
“I do this while I’m waiting for my supplies to make them into perfumes to come in,” she added.
She found a perfume recipe that involves mixing 190-proof alcohol, vegetable glycerin, and the perfume oil of your choice into a two-ounce perfume bottle.
For those who could do without the DIY, one Redditor shared their favorite dupe brand – Dossier.
Our original poster also knew about the popular company, as well as a few others.
“I’ve heard Generic Perfume, Oil Perfumery and Perfume Parlour are some other reputable sites,” she said.
She was thrilled to be able to make her own Gucci Guilty fragrance, picture above, for much less than the $135 it sells for[/caption]Some users were grateful for the advice.
“Thanks. I’m a huge fan of oil-based perfumes. Will give them a try,” they said.
“Thank you so much for this post! I love lavender but everything is so expensive these days I’d given it up,” one user commented.
“Now I’m thinking of getting a gallon of Castile soap and adding fragrance to that, as well as crafting my very own scent, ‘Waft of Neighbor’s Summer Flower Garden,'” they added.
“See also $4 amber oil from Whole Foods, per Kristen Bell,” another reader chimed in.
