MARTINE McCutcheon has announced that she and her husband Jack McManus are parting ways after 18 years together.
The shocking news was announced on the actresses Instagram account earlier today as she candidly opened up about the split and how it came about.
The 48-year-old, best known for playing Natalie in Love Actually first met Jack, a singer/songwriter, in the early 2000s, married in 2012 and share a son, Rafferty, 9, together.
While most celebrities keep the details of relationship breakups between themselves, Michelle went for a more open approach with her fans revealing it was Jack’s decision to call it quits.
Psychologist Emma Kenny exclusively speaks to Fabulous on the hidden truth behind Martine’s heartfelt statement she shared to her 620k followers.
She says: “The statement begins with a significant phrase: “After much thought and consideration, Jack has decided it’s best for us to separate.”
“This wording unmistakably places the decision in Jack’s hands, subtly indicating that he was the one who felt the relationship needed to end. For many, this might suggest that Jack was the driving force behind the separation.”
Martine adds that their decision to be together has evolved and they are still finding a new way forward that works for the whole family.
The psychologist says: “Martines phrasing conveys a sense of coming to terms with something that may not have been her preferred outcome.
“This acceptance, however, also demonstrates her emotional maturity and willingness to respect Jack’s feelings and choices, despite any personal pain it may cause her.”
The pair often snapped with their son so it only makes sense for Martine to state they will always be there for him as a family even after their split.
Emma adds: “The couple’s mutual dedication to their 9-year-old son, Rafferty, is a central theme in the statement. They emphasise that his “happiness and welfare” remain their “number 1 priority.”
“This suggests that while their romantic relationship is ending, they are fully committed to positive co-parenting.”
“However, the decision to highlight Rafferty’s well-being might also serve as a way Martine to underscore her continued role as a loving and protective parent.
“By keeping the focus on Rafferty, she subtly reminds everyone that, regardless of the separation, her primary concern has always been her son, and, by extension, her family’s well-being.”
The statement’s ending is particularly poignant according to Emma who adds: “Marine expresses continued support for Jack, saying, “I continue to send Jack all the love, luck, and happiness for the next chapter of his life.”

It came just weeks after the ex EastEnders actress, 48, told how her love for the singer, 40, was “unconditional” – and how she was looking forward to their “next chapter.”
Jack is a singer-songwriter who went to the famous BRIT School.
The pair met at a live music venue in Piccadilly in the early 2000s.
Speaking about when they first met, Martine previously confessed: “We laid eyes on each other and that was it.”
The former couple tied the knot in 2012 at Lake Como in Italy.
The pair welcomed their son Rafferty in 2015.
On August 22, 2024, Martine announced the break-up on social media.
“But it’s the phrase that follows, ‘Rafferty and I (as always,) are rooting for you!”, that holds deeper meaning.
“By saying “as always,” she subtly implies that both she and Rafferty have consistently supported Jack, possibly even prioritising his happiness and success throughout their relationship.”

“In other words, she might be letting it be known that, despite her ongoing efforts to prioritise him and his needs, the relationship has reached a point where those efforts were no longer enough to keep them together.”
Not only this, but Emma also shared: “It’s likely that Martine has suspicions, or is fully aware of what this next chapter may be, and is ultimately letting both Jack and the world know that she is prepared for this.
“Whilst on one level it appears that she is fully supportive, one cannot help feeling that she is also being clear that she hasn’t had the wool pulled over her eyes….even if Jack believes this to currently be the case.”
