FURIOUS Coronation Street fans have hit out, claiming it feels like they’re ‘watching a different show’.
Their comments were particularly directed towards the ongoing Lauren Bolton storyline which has spanned several months.
Taking to forum site Reddit, one viewer pointed out a “problem” with the plot, claiming they hadn’t seen anyone mention it before.
They wrote: “There’s too many new characters..
“Joel, Swain, Bobby, Betsy, Lauren and Dee Dee (love her but she is fairly new) are all relatively new characters.
“It feels like I’m watching a different show sometimes.”
Another fan agreed, also highlighting Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) and Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) as examples.
They penned: “It feels weird watching Mason and Betsy talk about a situation involving Joel, which started because Betsy met Joel through Sabrina, who was introduced via Gav, who was himself only introduced in the last couple of years. I could go on.
“Too many new characters, and also too much focus on them.”
While a third chimed in: “Daisy & Jenny were consistent characters that just seemed to vanish……. Why? Less fun, overall as well.
“Also, Daniel, where is he? A lot of characters taking back seat to these new characters to me is strange.”
It comes as a recently aired shocking twist finally exposed solicitor Joel Deering (Calum Lill) as an abuser of young women, including Lauren.
After realising Joel had been deceiving her for months, his fiancee Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) started to piece things together.
She deduced Joel had been Lauren’s secret boyfriend from months ago, working out he’d hidden the necklace from police, therefore had lied to her.
When visiting Lauren at the hospital, Dee-Dee was horrified to discover Joel there visiting newborn Frankie – as everything fell into place.
Speaking to Lauren, Dee-Dee learned the truth of how Joel had groomed and abused the younger woman.
Dee-Dee further realised Joel had drugged Lauren and then left her locked in the flat to miscarry alone.
Over the years, all three of the main soaps have featured plots that have had even die-hard fans reaching for their phones and laptops so they can get in touch with Ofcom and complain. Here are just some of the most scandalous…
As Lauren broke down over the thought that Joel tried to kill her baby – and potentially her, Dee-Dee helped find the strength to speak to the police.
Unfortunately, Joel overheard the conversation from outside and enacted his own plan.
How will the storyline ultimately come to an end?
Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and is available to watch on ITVX.
