A MAN has been charged with attempted murder after a nine-year-old girl was stabbed at a block of flats.
Jordan Wilkes, 28, is due to appear at Poole Magistrates Court today.
A schoolgirl aged 9 was stabbed and rushed to hospital[/caption]The young girl sustained stab wounds in the attack on Tuesday at a block of flats in Glider Close, Christchurch in Dorset – a quiet cul-de-sac where locals said children often play in the street.
The girl’s injuries are described as not being life-threatening and she is still recovering in hospital.
Dorset Police cordoned off the block of flats while detectives carried out door-to-door enquiries.
They said the investigation had been “fast-paced” and Wilkes, from Christchurch, has now been charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
A local woman aged in her 50s, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released without charge and will face no further action.
DCI Aimee Schock of BCP CID said: “After enquiries carried out by detectives, we liaised with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) who authorised the charges.
“There will continue to be an increased policing presence in the coming days and we would urge anyone to approach an officer with information or concerns.
“I would like to thank the community for their ongoing support.”
