A WOMAN who has made £333 on Vinted has shared her top tips for making sales on the site.
Vinted is an online marketplace where people can buy and sell second hand clothes, shoes and accessories.
It’s completely free to upload clothes to the app and Vinted does not take a cut of sellers’ profits and instead charges buyers a small fee to purchase each item.
Savvy seller Jaan Imelda took to YouTube to reveal how she is able to make sales less than 24 hours after uploading items.
Jaan revealed that a lot of people put very basic things about the item in the description but said that this is a “common mistake.”
She said that you need to be as descriptive as possible, to give the item more chance of appearing in people’s searches.
Sharing the template she uses for her descriptions, Jaan said that first she puts in an adjective to describe the item such as “sexy” or “cute”.
Then she types in the colour of the item and a detailed description of it such as “bandeau top” or “crop top”.
Next Jaan describes which aesthetic category the item fits into such as cottage-core or Y2K and adds in the name of the brand.
“This way you don’t need to bump your items as they will appear in lots of different searches”, she said.
Jaan said that many people don’t use hashtags in their Vinted descriptions, but said that they are vital to making sales.
She said that she adds separate hashtags for the type of the item, the colour, the brand and the aesthetic.
Jaan said that another way to guarantee that you are making sales fast is to post items on Friday evening or Saturday afternoon, as this is when many people will be looking at the site.
She added that you should make sure to sell items in the right season, for example there is no point trying to sell a massive coat in winter as no one will want to buy it.
Jaan said that offering incentives is a great way of increasing interest in your item.
For example, she explained that if you say to people “if you favourite this item I’ll give you 20% off” in the description, you will get lots of favourites, thus increasing interest in the item.

She added that if you tell people that this offer is only available for as few days, it will encourage them to buy quicker.
Online marketplaces like Vinted and Depop have millions of users across the UK, with the cost-of-living crisis only increasing their popularity.

One in six people now say they buy used items, according to research commissioned by review site Trustpilot.

According to the popular platform, sellers do not have to pay tax on earnings they make from the site.
This, HMRC stated, is because selling personal items through platforms like Vinted is not itself taxable.
”If the money a member makes on Vinted over a year is less than the amount they paid for the items they are selling, then there is no tax to pay,” a Vinted spokesperson explained.
”Generally, only business sellers “trading” for profit might need to pay tax.
”A tax-free allowance of £1,000 has been in place since 2017 for people who trade for profit.”
