A YOUNG woman has revealed how she bought storage units converted into a tiny home despite her mum pleading with her not to.
Taking to social media, the woman proved her mum wrong as she showed how she transformed the outdated tiny home.
She wrote: “My mother and realtor begged me not to buy my little 550 square foot house it needed lots of love but I saw the potential in the MCM (mid-century modern) details.
“I knew it could be great and the price was right.
“Here are some before and after pictures still some more to do I tried to keep some of the old and add in some new.”
The pictures showed off the outside of her tiny home which was painted a deep green colour with white window panels and doors.
The interiors before she got her hands on the small home were seriously outdated, with beige tiled flooring and grubby brown furniture.
The house was kitted out in orange-stained wood panelling giving it a 70s feel.
The dining area included a built in bench along the corner and had wooden panelled ceilings as well.
But she saw beyond the outdated parts and captured the features she could make look more modern to turn it into her dream home.
The front room and dining area was updated by painting the walls white and covering the orange-stained wood, but she decided to keep the 70s style flooring and ceiling fans.
In the kitchen, she painted the wooden cupboards a dark green to match the outside colour of her home and added gold handles for a more sophisticated touch.
The bench in the dining room was painted white as well and she removed the stained table for a smaller white one.
The bathroom also got a makeover as she striped the endless wooden features and painted them white and green for a more modern feel.
Showing off the impressive transformation, she wrote: “It’s my peace and my little piece of comfort. I don’t require much and it’s just perfectly imperfect in my eyes.”
The post shared to the Facebook group, Small Space Living, was a hit with viewers receiving hundreds of likes.
TINY houses can be UK regardless of whether they are on a trailer base or not. The legality of tiny houses is all to do with where it is and what you use it for.
If you want to put your tiny house in the back garden of the home that you own, and the overall size of your tiny house does not exceed 19.8m x 6.7m (65ft x 22ft), then good news! You do not require planning permission.
Tiny houses that fit within these dimensions and are constructed on trailer bases are legally classified as caravans, which means you can legally park them within the curtilage of your home without planning permission.
If this is your plan, then it is a legal requirement that you only use the tiny house as additional living space, like an office, a gym, or a studio, but you cannot rent out the space to a tenant.
For those of you who live on farmland, what is defined as curtilage can be complicated. In these cases, and under any circumstances where you are unsure, we recommend that you speak to your local planning officer.
You can put a tiny house on your land as a temporary structure for 28 days, but for any longer than this we recommend that you speak to your local planning officer as different permissions will be required.
