EMMERDALE viewers have been left disgusted and furious after the soap broadcast terrifying abuse scenes which saw Belle’s dog Piper murdered.
The abhorrent storyline has seen fans complain in their droves with many now insisting the soap’s bosses should be sacked as a result of the controversial plot.
Last week, ITV viewers could not believe their eyes as they witnessed Tom cruelly run over Piper leaving her with life-threatening injuries.
His actions were all part of his plan to keep control over Belle amid their abusive marriage.
Having taken Piper to the vets, he knew Belle would have no choice but to interact with him.
Later, as Tom confirmed he was putting Piper down after being ‘unable’ to save her from his cruel acts resulting in Belle crying into his arms once more.
However, Belle soon clued up to the fact that Tom had a part to play in Piper’s death as she realised that he only did it just to be around her.
But fans are less than impressed and have now sent hundreds of scathing messages to the soap to express their frustration as the vile scenes.
Writing online, one disgruntled viewer said: “There’s literally no need to be bringing animal abuse into this storyline (AGAIN) at all. Too far.”
Another roared: “Who the hell wrote this awful animal abuse storyline ? They need sacking !!”
A third posted: “How deluded can #emmerdale be to think we want to witness this animal cruelty for weeks on end
“Belle should have took the injection off him and stuck it in his a***.”
A fourth enraged telly watched added: “Killing a dog is a sickening scene. Could have easily done something different to show DV or stop the storyline as the message has been shown all year!!!”
Before a fifth went on to say: “I’m baffled as to why @emmerdale has decided to write in a storyline so dark and twisted it would give Steven King a good run for his money. This is gross and no longer enjoyable to watch.”
“You should be ashamed of yourselves for airing scenes like this,” quipped another.
In the shocking episode, Tom reassured her that Piper didn’t suffer and was now at peace – but he overplayed his hand when he tried to manipulate her.
Realising he killed her, she confronted him and then exposed him for abusing Piper at the cottage in Wales in front of Rhona.
Tom tried to shut her up, but she told him that she would never forgive him.
And later in the cottage, Belle told Tom: “You are nothing but a sick manipulative bully, and I can’t be anywhere near you – do you understand?
“Get out of my house.”
