A WOMAN shared an insight into the temporary council accommodation her family is staying in.
The mum-of-two revealed that the basic set-up doesn’t have so much as a microwave.
In her viral video, TikTok user Talia (@taliaoutten) gave her viewers a brief glimpse of the living area of her temporary residence.
She told her audience that she found herself “homeless with two babies.”
Talia explained that they found themselves staying in a hotel room with no kitchen facilities.
While she described herself as feeling “forever grateful” to the council for their help, she pointed out that the living conditions were not feasible for her family.
Talia revealed that her children are one and three years old and she needed a kitchen to get by.
“No cooker or microwave or fridge for the babies milk,” the TikToker explained.
She panned the camera to the temporary kitchen set-up she created on the desk of the hotel room.
Talia used the room’s kettle to cook pot noodles and other easy prep meals.
However, she pointed out that she would need better facilities to look after her children.
She said the council told her that she shouldn’t be in the room for more than eight months because of her young kids.
According to Talia, the family has “no idea of what happens next.”
She added that right now she is just happy knowing her children are safe.
“Staying positive knowing our journey will end amazing and I’ll create them the best home,” she said.
Talia made other efforts to make the room feel like home for her young children.
She added decor and other touches of home such as books and toys throughout the space.
To apply for a council home, you need to fill out and hand in an application to your local authority.
To find your local authority, simply use the Government’s council locator tool on its website.
Once you have access to your local council’s website, it should offer you guidelines on how to complete your application.
After applying, you’ll most likely have to join a waiting list.
Bear in mind, even if you are put on a waiting list, this doesn’t guarantee you a council house offer.
Your council should also offer you advice on how to stay in your current home and solve any issues you might have, such as problems with a private landlord or mortgage.
You are eligible to apply for council housing if you are a British citizen living in the UK providing have not lived abroad recently.
Each council has its own local rules about who qualifies to go on the housing register in its area, but it is based on “points” or a “banding” system.
