PREMIER LEAGUE football returns to our screens with the 2024-25 campaign getting underway on Friday, August 16.
And there’s no shortage of contenders all looking to secure the ultimate prize by wrestling the title away from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
But away from the title and European qualification, there’s an even greater battle being fought with several sides desperate to preserve their Premier League status.

Here, SunSport takes a closer look at the 2024-25 Premier League relegation betting odds, and reveals who is most likely to be playing Championship football next season.
It’s difficult to see beyond a long and difficult campaign for the 2015–16 Premier League champions. The Foxes lost both manager Enzo Maresca and leading playmaker Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who was responsible for 12 goals and 15 assist last season.
They could also be deducted a hefty number of points for breaching profit and sustainability rules. That’s yet to be confirmed, but if it materialises then survival would be near-impossible for Steve Cooper’s side.
Cooper’s arrival is a bright spot for the club given his Premier League experience and tactical flexibility, but a net spend of £1.5m on three new recruits is minuscule in comparison to their rivals.
Ipswich have reached the big time following back-to-back promotions under highly-rated manager Kieran McKenna.
Indeed, McKenna is perhaps their biggest asset ahead of the upcoming campaign, and the Northern Irishman’s approach will be crucial if they’re to survive.
The Tractor Boys have spent roughly £70m during the summer transfer window with successful loanee Omari Hutchinson and talented centre-back Jacob Greaves through the door on permanent deals – but it’s a massive jump for a squad that was playing League One football not so long ago.

Can Southampton establish themselves as a Premier League club once more? It’s going to be tricky if manager Russell Martin isn’t prepared to compromise on his possession-based style.
Saints boasted a league-high average of 65% possession last season but, as we witnessed with Vincent Kompany’s Burnley, it doesn’t always translate to the top flight.
Southampton have made improvements to the squad with Ben Brereton Diaz arriving to ease the burden on talisman Adam Armstrong, whilst the additions of Adam Lallana and Charlie Taylor provide good Premier League experience.
There looks to be a differing of opinion on Everton this season. Outsiders will point towards the still unresolved ownership situation and departure of midfielder Amadou Onana as huge negatives – but supporters appear quietly confident of their progress over the summer.
Jack Harrison has returned on another season-long loan, while the arrivals of Jesper Lindstrom, Iliman Ndiaye and Jake O’Brien should add some much-needed firepower, creativity and defensive depth for Sean Dyche’s side.

Nottingham Forest did well to protect their Premier League status despite a points deduction last season.
And it’s clear they don’t want a repeat of that in the upcoming season having brought in SIX new players including Elliot Anderson from Newcastle and Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina.
They crucially managed to retain the services of Morgan Gibbs-White but there’s been quite a few outgoings while there’s still a few doubts in the creativity and goalscoring departments when Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga aren’t at their best.
Wolves are considered the next most vulnerable side, according to the bookies. Gary O’Neil’s side have lost centre-back Max Kilman to West Ham, and brought in three young and inexperienced signings.
Brentford are next at 9/2 with William Hill. The Bees had looked likely to sell talisman Ivan Toney, but a devastating injury to £30million addition Igor Thiago looks likely to see the England international stay. Aside from that, very little has changed for Thomas Frank’s side, who finished 16th last season.
