MYSTERY surrounding the search for a missing Brit has deepened with his sister believing he flew out of Thailand to a destination 5,000 miles away.
Simon Robinson, 27, was feared to have vanished in Bangkok with distraught family believing he never boarded the plane back home on July 26, despite his phone pinging minutes from the airport.
But now sister Sarah Robinson Dale says they have confirmed he jumped on a jet – although it appears he ended up in Finland rather than back home in Lincolnshire.
It means the search has shifted a staggering 5,000 miles from Southeast Asia up to the Arctic Circle.
In a post to Facebook, Sarah said: “We have received confirmation that Simon did board the flight on the 26th July.
“A massive thank you to everyone that has shared and the kind people that have found this information out as the authorities at both sides haven’t done anything
“I am waiting for a call back from the police and embassy in Helsinki.”
South Yorkshire cops on Monday confirmed Simon’s case had been reported to them, but said they hadn’t issued their own missing persons appeal.
Sarah said the information about Simon hopping on the plane out of Thailand came despite how “UK police confirmed he didn’t”.
The Sun again contacted South Yorkshire police for comment.
The family’s new theory comes after they were contacted by a man claiming to be a Thai immigration officer.
They were told Simon was on flight AY142 – Finnair’s Bangkok-Helsinki route.
Sarah said she had it “confirmed” that Simon jetted off to Finland but didn’t reveal how.
Finnair said it couldn’t give any information about customers in response a request from The Sun to verify Simon’s flight details.
Simon originally flew to Thailand on July 22 and wasn’t due to come home until August 3.
But on July 26 he phoned his girlfriend to let her know he was coming home early, according to The Lincolnite.
He hasn’t been heard from since.
Simon’s pal Sam Champ had earlier taken to social media to ignite awareness.
He wrote: “One of my dear friends has gone missing in Bangkok, he hasn’t been heard from since the 26th of July.
“He was supposed to board a flight that day and he didn’t show up. It was his 27th birthday yesterday and everyone is growing very concerned.
“He has been reported as a missing person.
“I’ve attached a picture of him, his name is Simon Robinson and he’s from Lincolnshire.
“If anyone could share this post onward to anyone in Bangkok or Thailand I’d be so grateful.”
The Foreign Office said it stood ready to assist any Brit on overseas soil but stopped short of commenting on Simon’s case.
International police organisation Interpol said it didn’t comment on specific cases unless there were “special circumstances” or approval from the missing person’s country.
It comes after Australian holidaymaker Kieran James Cramer, 28, also vanished in Thailand in July.
He was eventually found in Bangkok but mystery still surrounds the disappearance.
Another missing Brit in July vanished on Italian island Sardinia.
Michael Frison, 25, was said to have left his home in Sardinia “undressed” before disappearing, according to his worried mum.
Budding barrister Ben Ross, 26, went missing in Majorca around the same time.
The Greater Manchester man was eventually found alive after nearly two weeks.
