ONLINE stores are one of the most common ways that games are leaked online, as listings accidentally appear before a game is announced.
This seems to be the case as an unannounced SpongeBob game has appeared on one store’s website before people even knew it existed.
Patrick Star is one of the most popular characters from the SpongeBob franchise[/caption]The game was spotted via a listing by a Twitter user on Slovenian gaming store Igabiba.
A game surrounding SpongeBob fan-favourite Patrick Star was listed for multiple platforms, including PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
Called simply The Patrick Star Game, it will apparently feature an open world with challenges for Patrick to complete set by other SpongeBob characters.
Few details were given about the game, but a blurb was included with the game listing.
It reads: “Patrick fans, your time has come – and Bikini Bottom is your open-world playground!
“You can skydive with just a parasol (or nothing at all), search for buried treasure in the Dump, or release the rage in Mrs. Puff’s Rage Room.
“Use almost any item you find – from the reef blower to a paint can – to make the world more Patrick.
“And take on challenges only Patrick would attempt, set up by SpongeBob, Sandy Cheeks, Mr. Krabs, and more.
“So become the Star of the show, put your silliest ideas into action, and enjoy the physics-based chaos that unfolds all around you!”
The Patrick Star Game was priced at €39.99, which usually equates to £34.99/$49.99.
People also could see cover art for the game which features Patrick Star in front of a theme park in Bikini Bottom, with SpongeBob in the background.
However, fans also spotted something on the cover that has them concerned for the game’s quality.
The publisher listed on the bottom right corner of the cover is Outright Games, known for its publishing of games for children.
While it has seen some success, many of its games have bad reviews due to numerous bugs and poor gameplay.
One Twitter user wrote: “Outright games is a big red flag” while another commented sarcastically “I trust the publisher behind Peppa Pig World Adventures.”
Most of the comments simply wrote “Outright Games” followed by memes showing disapproval of the publisher choice.
The Patrick Star Game hasn’t been confirmed, but listings like this usually turn out to be real.
Whether it will turn out to be one of Outright Games’ more quality titles is still yet to be determined.
