WANTING to make your home how you imagine it to be is sometimes a very expensive feat.
However, there are plenty of people on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram that show you can do it on a budget.
Megan Garibaldi aka @megangaribaldihome on TikTok, shared how she and her partner got their ‘dream’ Ottomon for less than £100.
In the video, she explained how they visited their local dump shop (which resells perfectly good and usable items that were originally going to end up in landfill) and spotted a tatty leather Ottomon for £10.
Luckily, Megan saw the piece of furniture’s potential and decided to take it home to upcycle.
They removed the original fabric straight away whilst still at the tip as they could easily dispose of it.
They then went to Brewers to choose some new fabric, and settled on a gorgeou spink and white striped material.
The fabric the couple chose is from a brand called Harlequin in the pattern Ribbon Stripe fabric.
The fabric costs £33 per metre, but you could pick up material from a charity shop, or check Facebook Marketplace, or the sales racks at haberdashery stores for cheaper material.
“We cut it to size so it just overlapped the base,” she said with a picture of her sitting on the floor cutting the material.
They then started fitting the fabric on and around the Ottomon and stapled it “tightly” to the bottom.
They used a staple gun (which they had bought for a previous project from Screwfix for £15) to secure the fabric.
To complete the upcycled Ottoman, they splurged on some new legs from a Etsy shop called SerrinaInteriors.
Four a set of four, the legs costs them £55.
Megan then shared an after picture of her dog sitting in front of the newly decorated Ottomon.
In the caption, she wrote the pair could have done it even cheaper but decided to splash out.
“Here’s how we made our dream ottomon for less than £100!” It read.
“You can do it way cheaper but we chose expensive fabric and expensive legs.”
People took to the comments to praise what the pair had created.

In total, it cost Megan and her partner £98, excluding the staplegun.
And it looks very similar to that of a designer Ottoman that costs a whopping £1066 online.
The Alwinton Footstool from Sofas and Stuff comes in a classic pink stripe and has wooden feet with gold rollers.
Originally priced at £1066, it is currently on sale for £906 – a whopping £808 more than Megan’s upcycled version.
Dunelm also do a pink striped footstool for £179.
It’s called the Beatrice Woven Stripe Footstool and is available in four striped colourways.
