VIEWERS watching the BBC’s gymnastics coverage thought they could hear a familiar voice during the women’s trampoline final.
Ex-gymnast Craig Heap was leading commentary throughout the final at Bercy Arena on Friday.
Craig Heap (R) has been commentating on the Olympics in Paris[/caption]But many fans on social media hilariously mistook him for comedian Johnny Vegas.
Both have strong Yorkshire accents which sound almost identical.
One person took to X to write: “Can’t help it – when I hear Craig Heap commentating on #Olympics2024 gymnastics on BBC I think he might be Johnny Vegas pretending!”
Another said: “Is Johnny Vegas commentating on the Olympic trampoline?”
A third joked: “Great to hear Johnny Vegas commentating on the trampolining at the Olympics. Never too late for a career change folks. Go Johnny!”
While a fourth wrote: “When did Johnny Vegas start commentating on the gymnastics?!”
Heap has been commentating on all gymnastics events at the Olympics this summer.
He joined British fans in congratulating Team GB star Bryony Page on winning gold in the women’s trampoline final.
