PLANNING a wedding can be pretty stressful, there’s a lot to sort out and pay for afterall.
But one bride-to-be has caused a stir after she revealed the reason she’s not letting her mum wear the dress she wants to on the big day.
According to the bride, there’s a very strict colour theme, something she told the wedding party about so they’d have plenty of time to co-ordinate and find the perfect outfits.
“Before I’d even picked out my dress, my mom told me she found hers,” the bride explained.
The only problem was the dress she picked was black – a colour that wasn’t part of the theme.
“I said, no thank you, it’s my wedding, not a funeral. Since you’ll be a part of the ceremony, I’d like you to wear one of these four colours,” the bride told her mum.
The bride’s mood board showcased the approved colours for the wedding, which included dark purple, dark green, burgundy and mustard yellow.
The mum then refused to look for another dress for a while, which the bride thought was “insane” because of her “shopping addiction.”
Eventually, the mum suggested she wears something she already owns, even though none of the options totally matched the mood bord.
Things went from bad to worse when the bride’s aunt revealed she’s already bought a dress to fit the theme, even though she won’t be in the bridal party so wouldn’t need to.
“She pulls up some amazon dresses to get my opinion. My mum pulls out her phone and pulls up a BRIGHT teal dress and says she just added to her cart and bought it,” the bride slammed.
“Lord help me,” she added.
But after sharing the debacle on Facebook, the bride was met with a lot of backlash from people who thought she was over reacting about the whole thing.
“Seriously? It’s a black dress that ties into your dark colour scheme. Move on and find other things to control,” one person commented.
A second a greed: “Controlling what your mother wears is next level. Just stop.”
“You’re being ridiculous and you know it,” a third chimed in.
Meanwhile, someone else said the bride-to-be was acting like a “bridezilla” by trying to control what anyone beyond her bridesmaids wears to her big day.
“It’s not tradition to dictate what the mother of the bride or any other guests wear because they’re grown adults,” they wrote.
But others were on the bride’s side, and thought the mum was being difficult for no reason.
“Maybe she needs a gift card for therapy instead of fifty dresses, at this point it sounds like you’re lucky if she doesn’t show up in white,” one said.
“I would let her wear what she wants. She will be the odd one out when everyone else is in the wedding colours,” someone else suggested.
