THE summer holidays have finally arrived – but as kids are having the time of their lives, many cash-strapped parents are wondering how to keep up with the ever-growing costs.
There is entertainment to consider, hungry tummies that need to be fed at all times of the day, as well as spending time together, whether that’s in a caravan site or somewhere abroad.
Savvy mum-of-four chatted to Fabulous and listed seven easy ways to rake in some extra cash whilst the kids are at home[/caption] Is your wardrobe full of clothes you no longer wear? Selling them on Vinted and eBay is one way of earning money[/caption]Someone who knows a little about this is mum Casey Major-Bunce, from Portsmouth, who has four kids at home now that school holidays are in full force.
The well-known mum influencer regularly shares hacks to slash the expenses on her Instagram page, @Majorbuncehome – and now she’s revealed how you can make money from the comfort of your home.
Earnings: up to £500
With over 16million active members in the UK alone, Vinted doesn’t need an introduction – since it’s launch in 2008 by two Lithuanians, the site has become one of the favourite places for many to sell their old goodies.
Not only can you rake in cash by clearing out your wardrobe but also flog tech, beauty items – as long as they’re in packaging and with tags – and any household goods.
It really is a win-win for your wallet – and the environment.
”Platforms like Vinted, eBay, and Music Magpie offer opportunities to sell your pre-owned items,” the money-smart mum told Fabulous.
”For example, you can also buy items from car boot sales or thrift stores and resell them online for a profit.”
Earnings: £1,050 if you rent your home during your one-week holiday
Heading away this summer, whether that’s a staycation in the UK or jetting off to soak up some sun?
Casey advised to look into earning some money by putting your home up for rent, even if it’s for a short period of time – the money will add up.
”Use platforms like Airbnb to rent out your home while you are away, with prices ranging from £150 per night and can be much more depending on location and property type.”
Earnings: £40
By now, most of us have heard of survey sites – and there’s a good reason thousands are raving about this easy side hustle method.
Casey said: ”Websites like Freecash.com offer opportunities to get paid for testing apps, games, and taking surveys, with an average earning potential of £41.20 depending on how many surveys you do.”
There are plenty of sites to choose from, such as QMee, LifePoints and ISay.
Most sites will require you meet the eligibility criteria for the surveys, such as your location, age, or income, and if you don’t match it you won’t be able to take part.
However, the more often you try the more likely you’ll get the thumbs up to go ahead and make some money from your sofa.
Earnings: £350
Have you got a hidden talent? Sell your crafted goodies on Etsy[/caption]Have you got a hidden talent and have been blessed with a creative hand?
Why don’t you get crafting whilst the kids are playing and flog the goods online?
The mum said: ”Consider selling homemade crafts on Etsy, such as party favours, which can fetch around £25.”
The options here are practically endless – funky posters, art, jewellery, pots and cards to name a few.
Based on new research from Finder, an estimated 22.8 million Brits are using side hustles to top up their income.
Among those aged 18-23, 68 percent have a side hustle in 2024.
Those aged 24-42 aren’t far behind, with 65 per cent having an additional source of income.
Side hustles are less popular among older generations, with 40 percent of those aged 43-54 having one.
Whereas 23 percent of people aged 55-73 and just 7 per cent of those aged 74 and over are earning extra cash this way.
Earnings: £133
Did you know that walking and keeping active is good not just for your overall fitness – but also your bank account?
Turns out, you can burn calories – whilst making your wallet fat, Casey revealed.
”Join apps like Sweatcoin to earn money simply by walking. Users can earn up to £9.50 per day and have chances to win prizes like Apple watches and Amazon vouchers.”
Earnings: £1,680
”In today’s sharing economy, homeowners are increasingly realizing the financial advantages of renting out their underutilized tools and equipment,” Casey said.
”If you own a lawn mower, pressure washer, steam cleaner, or sofa cleaner, you have a fantastic opportunity to transform these items into sources of passive income. Imagine renting each item out for just £40 a day!”
To ensure a smooth rental experience, the savvy mum advised to request a deposit before handing over any equipment – this deposit will be refunded once the item is returned safely.
”Additionally, if you have a vehicle, consider offering a delivery service within a 15-mile radius for just £10.
”This added convenience can make your service even more appealing.”
When it comes to promoting the rental offerings, Casey said to check out platforms like Facebook Marketplace, where you could generate significant income.
”For instance, if you rented out even one item per day for just six weeks, you could potentially earn an impressive £1,680.
”Embrace this opportunity to monetize your tools while helping others in your community!”
Total earnings: £3,753.
