CORONATION Street is set to undergo a major show first with an ambitious new storyline.
Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) only returned to the soap months ago after a three year break.
Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) will be part of a daring new storyline[/caption] In a show first, her character will go under the knife abroad[/caption]But now the long-running character is set to highlight the dangers of going under the knife abroad.
In forthcoming scenes on Coronation Street, she is set to feel increasingly insecure about her looks and appearance.
Taking desperate measures, she will decide to jet off to an exotic country for cheap cosmetic surgery.
But as with many storylines, everything is not what it seems, and Bethany will learn the hard way about the consequences of botched operations.
A source told the Metro: “This is a huge story for Bethany, and viewers will see her travel to a foreign clinic for cosmetic surgery.
“As with a lot of these unregulated procedures, it doesn’t exactly go to plan.”
This topical issue has hit the headlines in recent years for all kinds of bad operations.
The Sun has previously reported on a number of cases where surgeries abroad have not gone as planned.
Boob jobs, facelifts and so-called ‘Turkey teeth’ surgeries have become popular amongst Brits who look for cheaper alternatives to expensive and regulated surgeries in the UK.
Even though Bethany has only been back for a small number of months, we have already seen the character get involved in major storylines.
When she made her comeback onto the cobbles, Bethany was seriously struggling in her journalism career.
But she decided to investigate Daisy Midgeley’s (Charlotte Jordan) affair with Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) after their acid attack.
She quizzed Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) about the pair before she mysteriously disappeared.
After spotting her own abuser, Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper) after he was released from prison, she was convinced that he was the man who was responsible.
Over the years, all three of the main soaps have featured plots that have had even die-hard fans reaching for their phones and laptops so they can get in touch with Ofcom and complain. Here are just some of the most scandalous…
Even though it was corrupt lawyer Joel Deering (Calum Lill) who was behind it all along after he physically beat her.
She managed to track the adolescent down along with Joel’s fiance, Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) to an abandoned boozer in Warrington.
Lauren then told the police that it was Nathan who abused her, as she covered up for Joel’s crimes after falling pregnant with his baby.
IT'S important to do your research if you're thinking about having cosmetic surgery abroad.
It can cost less than in the UK, but you need to weigh up potential savings against the potential risks.
Safety standards in different countries may not be as high.
No surgery is risk-free. Complications can happen after surgery in the UK or abroad.
If you have complications after an operation in the UK, the surgeon is responsible for providing follow-up treatment.
Overseas clinics may not provide follow-up treatment, or they may not provide it to the same standard as in the UK.
Also, they may not have a healthcare professional in the UK you can visit if you have any problems.
