Newly-promoted Serie A side Como confirmed Varane has signed a two-year deal with the option of a further year.
He could make his debut as early as Monday, with Como facing Al-Hilal in a friendly in Austria.
Varane made 95 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring once and winning two trophies.
However, he struggled with injuries throughout his time in England, missing 48 matches in total.
The 31-year-old will join up with former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas in Italy.
Fabregas ended his career with Como in 2023, becoming their under-19 manager.
He later served as assistant to Osian Roberts as the club won promotion to Serie A last season.

The Spaniard is now manager himself, having signed a four-year deal through to the summer of 2028.
Como will feature in the top-flight for the first time for 21 years this coming season.
Former Premier League stars Pepe Reina, Alberto Moreno and Patrick Cutrone are also part of their squad.
Meanwhile, Thierry Henry is a minority owner after investing in 2022.
