I’m a secondary school teacher & have 5 strict rules for my future kids – knowing their phone password is just the start

A TEACHER has revealed the strict list of rules she has for her future children.

Miss Wright, a secondary school teacher from the UK has shared that not only will she know her child’s phone password, but she will also be checking their mobile every week.

The teacher left many totally stunned with her strict rules, which she shared on social media.

In her short video, she revealed the five things that she isn’t going to allow her future teenage children to do.

The teacher revealed that smartphones are very powerful things and claimed that at school, there’s “so many safeguarding incidents involving phones”.

She explained that she isn’t just talking about “stranger danger” but she also recognises the “peer on peer” issues too.

As a result, she revealed: “If my child does have a smartphone before the age of 14, I’m going to need to check it weekly, they’re going to have to share their passcode with me, and this is gonna go up till the age of 16.”

The teacher recognised that she may get “some hate and some backlash” for not giving her future child “enough privacy”, but she claimed that she doesn’t think children of that age need privacy in that respect.

Not only this, but she claimed that if her child does have a phone, when they’re in Year 7, they won’t be allowed on it past 7pm, and when they’re in Year 8 and onwards, they will only be allowed it until 8pm.

Secondly, the teacher explained that her children aren’t going to be able to refuse to do a sport.

She expressed: “I come from a very physically fit family who do loads of sports and it’s something that’s very important to me and the rest of my family, so that’s what I would like to continue on.”

She claimed that sports give teenagers a chance to practice their life skills and learn resilience and communication, hence why she thinks it’s so important.

In addition to this, the teacher explained that her future kids won’t be able to refuse to read past the age of primary school.

She added: “Not only am I gonna read them bedtime stories nightly, but they will have to be reading nightly by themselves – they can choose whichever book they want, as long as it is appropriate.”

Shocking stats on smartphone use in children

New stats showed one in four six-year-olds have smartphones.

Some 45 per cent of 10-year-olds are allowed to use their smartphones in their bedrooms.

Research revealed just 28 per cent of parents use parental controls and only 20 per cent of parents felt the good the internet could bring their children outweighed the risks.

Recommendations for safeguarding children online include staying informed about social platforms, implementing security measures, and setting clear rules.

With an astonishing one in four Irish six-year-olds owning smartphones, Education Minister Norma Foley has called for increased parental engagement in online safety conversations as new statistics reveal concerning trends in children’s smartphone use.

The study, carried out on behalf of Ireland’s online safety charity, CyberSafeKids to mark Safer Internet Day, found more than half of parents do not feel confident about keeping their children safe online, even though over 80 per cent feel it is their responsibility.

Experts said the findings underlined the risky environments in which some children are accessing the online world.

As well as this, the teacher continued: “My child’s not going to be able to pick their own bedtime – sleep is very very important, so it will be a 9pm bedtime and by 9:30pm their lights need to be off.”

Finally, the content creator explained that she won’t let her future children define themselves by their grades, including target grades.

She highlighted that she doesn’t agree with the way that target grades were created and generated and as a result, she concluded: “If my future child isn’t very academic, no problem, they just need to find something that they like.”

BIG DIVIDE

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @preciousmisswright, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up a whopping 196,900 views in just three days.

But social media users were left totally divided by the teacher’s thoughts – while some were keen to agree, others were quick to disagree, and many flocked to the comments to share their thoughts.

Teacher here, I completely agree

One user wrote: “Social worker here! Absolutely agree with the phone rule, Snapchat is a safeguarding nightmare.”

A second chimed in: “I have a 14-year-old and implement every single tip you mentioned! Great tips.”

Another beamed: “I 100% agree!”

Meanwhile, one teacher penned: “Teacher here, I completely agree, will definitely make my children do extracurriculars, their choice of what but something outside of school to fill their time.”

This is very OTT. I was given freedom and still felt happy

However, at the same time, many were quick to disagree, as one person said: “My mum used to check my phone and it kind of ruined our relationship because there are things that I told my friends that I was uncomfortable with and not ready to talk to her about.”

Another added: “As a mum of two teen girls all I can say is good luck!!”

A third commented: “With the sports thing, I get where you’re coming from but when I was that age I was incredibly self- conscious. If they are not allowed to say no, you could be traumatising them.”

Whilst someone else penned: “This is very OTT. I didn’t have all of these rules – I was given freedom and still felt happy.”
