Opening up about her situation, the social media user took to Reddit to share her moniker dilemma.
Posting on the ‘pregnant’ thread, the user, who posts under the username @restlessnobody8, titled her post ‘Baby name shaming’.
She then asked: “Is anyone else sick of being shamed for the name they chose for their baby?”
The woman revealed: “My fiancé and I chose our son’s name because we both like it, and his middle name is a family one.”
The woman shared that she wants to name her son Axel Phillip, as she continued: “However, a lot of people who ask what his name will be make fun of it somehow.
“I used to let it roll off my shoulders, but now it’s starting to make me feel bad.
“We’re not going to change it, but it almost feels like we’re being bullied into it.
“It hurts, and I don’t want my son to deal with that, either.
“How do you deal with people shaming the name you picked?”
But Reddit users were left totally divided, and many flocked to the comments to share their thoughts on the moniker.
Whilst some loved the name, others weren’t keen.
Axel is an awesome name!

One user beamed: “I love the name Axel! We have good friends that used Axel as a middle name. It’s unique and a nice name in my opinion.”
A second agreed: “I have a nephew named Axel. Very cute!”

Whilst someone else shared: “Axel is an awesome name!”
However, someone else said: “That’s terrible and tacky.”
If adults are making fun of it now, what do you think kids will do when they’re in school?

Another added: “Some names really are tragedeighs. Axel isn’t the worst, but the stereotypes with the name aren’t great.”
A third commented: “Unfortunately, you’re getting a taste of what he will inevitably experience in the near future. If adults are making fun of it now, what do you think kids will do when they’re in school?”
No one likes a baby’s name but once the baby is here they don’t care

At the same time, many users revealed that they also had similar experiences, and others explained that they would never tell people their baby names prior to the arrival of their child.
One mum-to-be explained: “That’s the reason I’ve decided not to share until birth. People are much less likely to shame it once a baby is born.”
The UK has no law restricting names, but names that contain obscenities, numerals, misleading titles, or are impossible to pronounce are likely to be rejected when registering a child.
Another agreed: “This is why you never share with anyone. No one likes a baby’s name but once the baby is here they don’t care. Everyone wants to name your baby instead of you.”
Whilst another parent shared: “I learned this the hard way too. I even made a post a few months ago about people shaming our name choice.
“If you can, just stop talking about the name to others. Sharing with others completely ruined my perception of a name we had picked out years ago.
“It’s terrible and it is bullying in a sense!”
