JAMES Corden fought back the tears as he gave a huge update on the highly-anticipated Gavin and Stacey Christmas special.
The BBC comedy’s return to our screens was confirmed in May.
Writers and stars of the show – James and Ruth Jones – shared the news on social media with a picture of them holding the script.
Yesterday James appeared on Virgin Radio’s The Chris Evans Breakfast Show and mentioned the upcoming episode.
He said: “Last night we were like ‘oh that’s it now. We’ve finished. We’ll never write anything that Pam says again.
“We’ll never write interior Gwen’s house.
“We’ll never come up with an interesting thing that Bryn’s done.’
“We just looked at each other and we were like ‘wow – isn’t that amazing?'”
Gavin and Stacey hit our screens in 2007.
The comedy has had three successful series and ended in 2010.
Fans were delighted when they were treated to a Christmas special in 2019.
Now they haven’t got long to wait until the second.
James and Ruth posted a picture of themselves with the script which had printed on it “Gavin and Stacey: the finale”.
James – who plays Smithy in the show – wrote on Instagram: “Some news… It’s official!!! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey.
“See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James.”
Matthew Horne, Joanna Page, Larry Lamb, and Alison Steadman will be back on our screens to reprise their roles.
However there is one original cast member who won’t be – Lewis Merchant who played baby Neil.
The youngster, who appeared on the programme as Smithy and Nessa’s baby 16 years, has just finished his GCSEs.
“I was in an acting company but I don’t do that anymore,” he explained.
“I just lost interest mainly, because I found I loved football and I preferred to do that when I was a bit younger, that was the main reason I stopped.”
Earlier this month James also gave an update on the episode.
Speaking on Capital Breakfast, James said: “It’s written right but now we’re doing rewrites. So we have to, we have to remove some time, we have to change some bits around.
“So we’ve been doing that, it’s quite tough because Ruth’s in Sister Act over in the West End at the minute, and I’m doing The Constituent at the Old Vic.
“So we’ve been doing quite a bit of writing in dressing rooms and things like that. And then both looking at each other being quite tired from the plays but we’ll be back at it tomorrow. Back at it Friday. I hope by Friday…it will be done and finished this Friday.”
