MAYA Jama has revealed the ‘harsh’ way she deals with break-ups following her split from Stormzy.
The TV star and rapper shocked their fans when they announced the end of their romance yesterday.
Now Maya has revealed how she deals with heartache – and it might surprise you.
Speaking to Vogue last year, she said: “Yeah, I’ve got that harshness. I don’t want revenge, I just want you to always feel like, ‘I’m so f**king sad I’ve lost them.’ You’re going to miss my presence based on my absence.”
When asked how she heals from a breakup, she replied: “The best thing you can do is try and do everything that made you happy before you met them.”
She also shared that she is always open to finding “actual love”.
“Yeah. Actual love. That’s all I ever want. Just real love. I want a best friend that I’m in love with. And I have had that before,” Maya explained.
Maya and Stormzy confirmed that the breakup is “final” after previously ending their five-year relationship in 2019 and reconnecting last August.
Taking to her Instagram Story on Wednesday, Maya shared a message from both of them stating that they had “tried” to make things work.
Announcing their split, the former couple told fans: “We’ve been laughing whilst drafting this because we never, ever, in a million years thought we’d be the couple announcing a breakup, but for the sake of clarity and, more importantly, to allow us the space and grace that’s needed for us both to be able to navigate this next bit of our lives with peace, we thought it might be best to.”
“We fell madly in love in 2014, broke up in 2019, and then spent five years manoeuvring life apart.
“We decided to try for the final time in August 2023, and we’ve spent this past year trying our best to make it work; however, we recently decided to call it quits.”
It has now been revealed that the split was due to the couple conflicted over when to settle down.
Stormzy is keen to have children sooner rather than later while Maya wants to focus on her career.
A source close to the couple told The Sun: “Maya wants to go out and be a social butterfly but he’s a homebody these days and isn’t keen on going out at all.
“Michael wants to settle down whereas Maya doesn’t want to do that yet — she wants to focus on her career.
“Michael loves the fact she is ambitious and thought they could make it work, but they respect each other too much to force the other to do something before they are ready.
“They ultimately broke up so they wouldn’t waste each other’s time.
“They are at totally different places in their lives. Both have tried to compromise but a lot has changed since they started dating ten years ago and their lifestyles are just not compatible.”
