WINE fans rejoice! Aldi has slashed the price of one of it’s delicious white wine just in time for the sunny weather.
Savvy shoppers have been raving about the taste of the reduced beverage all over social media – but you’ll have to act fast if you want a bottle.
As the weather is forecast to pick up after what feels like weeks of rain, the bargain supermarket has picked Baron Amarillo Rueda Verdejo for it’s wine of the week.
Previously priced at at £5.99, the white wine is currently on offer for just £3.99.
Savvy shoppers took to a popular money-saving Facebook group to rave about the deal, which is ends Sunday 21st July.
Sharing the deal in the group, one said: “Anyone tried this? Any good?”
Wine lovers seemed to agree the budget wine is a great choice, especially if you’re a fan of dry wine.
“It’s absolutely lovely, dry-ish like Pinot,” one said.
A second simply described the booze as “banging” while another wrote: “I had this last night! Was very good.”
On separate post in the same group someone else agreed the wine is great for the price.
They said: “It’s lovely, not too sweet and not too dry either! Well worth £3.99.
“I usually drink Sauvignon Blanc and I’m quite happy with this!”
Aldi’s wine expert and Mistress of Wine, Sam Caporn, previously suggested the wine is great for fans of Sauvignon Blanc too.
Named after the green – verde – colour of its fruit, the Verdejo is a variety of wine grape from the Rueda region of Spain, the wine is it is the new shining star of the wine world, according to the expert.
“Sometimes we can find ourselves in a wine rut, reaching for the same bottle again and again. For anyone looking to branch out this summer, Verdejo is a great alternative to Sauvignon Blanc as they have a lot of characteristics in common,” she said.
“It’s one of Spain’s most planted grape varieties, it offers citrussy notes along with lime and grapefruit, balanced by mouth-watering juicy acidity.
“It pairs beautifully with chicken, fish, seafood and salad, making it the ideal summer go-to. If you’re getting tired of the same old Sauvignon Blanc, give Aldi’s Verdejo a chance – it has the flavour and at just over a fiver it’s great value. You won’t be disappointed!”
The wine was also reviewed and approved by the supermarket’s panel of Wine Club members, who were appointed following a hunt for thirty enthusiasts to trial, test and review Aldi’s range of wines.
The Baron Amarillo Rueda Verdejo was a firm favourite across the panel, with one member calling it out as “one to watch” describing it as “sweet but dry with an amazing lightness that is unexpected!”
Another described it as, “the perfect compromise between Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio!”
WHEN it comes to shopping at Aldi, the best time to do so depends on what you want to buy.
For reduced items – when shops open
Red sticker items are rare at Aldi’s 830 UK stores, but the supermarket says that none of its food goes to waste so there are some to be found – if you’re quick.
A spokesman for the supermarket said: “All items are reduced to 50 per cent of the recommend sales price before stores open on their best before or use by dates.”
That means you have the best chance of finding reduced food items if you go into stores as soon as it opens.
Opening times vary by shop but a majority open from 7am or 8am. You can find your nearest store’s times by using the supermarket’s online shop finder tool.
For Specialbuys – Thursdays and Sundays
Specialbuys are Aldi’s weekly collection of items that it doesn’t normally sell, which can range from pizza ovens to power tools.
New stock comes into stores every Thursday and Sunday, so naturally, these are the best days to visit for the best one-off special deals.
For an even better chance of bagging the best items, head there for your local store’s opening time.
You don’t have to head into stores to bag a Specialbuy, though.
They also go on sale online, usually at midnight on Thursday and Sunday, and you can pre-order them up to a week in advance.
As long as you spend at least £25, you’ll get the items delivered for free.
Remember: once they’re gone, they’re gone, so if there’s something you really want, visit as early as possible
