A NEIGHBOUR used a homeowner’s driveway every day for two years but it ended when he got his own back.
The man, who has not been identified, got his revenge on his “entitled” neighbour after she had used his driveway to reverse park.
He claimed she would drive into his driveway to get the “perfect angle” allowing her to easily reverse into her own.
While he didn’t mind her using his driveway when he wasn’t home, she did want him to park in a certain way all the time so she could get the angle just right.
The man wrote on Reddit: “I have had this godawful neighbour for the last two years, who is nothing but a pain in my a**.
“I only have one car but like to park at the front of my driveway (fully in my property boundaries) so that I can easily direct my dogs to the car boot, quickly access the car if I have to shoot off, etc.
“For two years I have been keeping my car further in as an inconvenience to myself because this crazy woman two doors down would demand access to my driveway so she can get to reverse park on hers because she is too lazy to turn around in the morning.”
But when an emergency cropped up and he had to rush his dog to the vet, he parked in front of his house instead of the driveway so as not to waste any time.
However, his neighbour didn’t like this and tried to guilt-trip him for his supposed “bad parking”.
He said: “After a recent event where my car was in front of my house rather than the driveway (emergency, had to rush my dog into the vets as he was gravely injured), she texted me to demand why it was there and that she couldn’t use my drive.”
That was the final straw for the man who now decided to take action.
He wrote on the social media site: “I decided no longer am I being nice to her, so I parked just within my boundary.
“She went insane, first trying to guilt trip, next with anger.
“She is a full Karen in entitlement mode!”
Many commentators supported his actions.
One wrote in a reply: “Wow it is your driveway. She has no right to use it.”
Another said: “Text her back, ‘Clues in the name my driveway, it’s on my property so I can park my car on my driveway however I see fit.
In short, no it is not illegal to park across somebody else’s driveway unless you park on a dropped kerb.
If someone is blocking your driveway and you want them to move, the police won’t be able to do anything.
In the event of a dispute, you should contact your local council as it is a civil matter.
Unfortunately, they may not be able to help either if the car is on private land and is not obstructing the road or on a dropped kerb.
This would be classed as trespassing, requiring you to apply for an eviction order from a court, which can take months.
The police will only become involved if the dispute escalates to a crime, for example, if the repeated nuisance parking could be classed as harassment.
Likewise, local councils are able to remove cars if they are classified as abandoned, but that too is only after several months.
“It is not public access for those that are too lazy to reverse out of their own driveway. Got a problem? Take a few more driving lessons if your driving is truly that bad, but stay the off my property’.”
A third person added: “Some people don’t respond to higher levels of communication like respect.
“So you have to drop to a level they can understand. It’s uncomfortable for decent people to do this, but sometimes it’s the only thing that works.”
Elsewhere, another homeowner has vented their frustration with their neighbour, who, they claim, keeps parking on their driveway – and even gets friends to do the same.
