THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as thunderstorms and torrential rain are set to hit parts of Britain.
The heavy rain forecast could affect Wimbledon and the British Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon.
Meanwhile a yellow rain warning has been issued for parts of England and Wales.
Temperatures across the UK were below average for the time of year on Saturday by 2-3C, with a high of 21C being reached in Northern Ireland, the forecaster said.
Similar temperatures are expected on Sunday, along with heavy rain and the potential for disruption to Wimbledon and the British Grand Prix in the afternoon.
And a yellow weather warning for rain has been issued for the North Wales and Merseyside areas between 4am and 10am on Sunday.
This means heavy showers may cause some travel disruption and flooding in the morning.
Thunder is also possible on Sunday, most likely in the west, and high temperatures of 17-19C, with a chance of 20C on the east coast.
Rain is forecast for the All England Tennis Club between 10am and 6pm tomorrow, with it heaviest around lunchtime.
Temperatures are set to not rise above 17C, but tennis watchers might need a jumper as the air will feel more like 14C or 15C.
Meanwhile, the Formula One is set to also see a bit of rain, with there being a 60 per cent chance of precipitation from 11am to 1pm.
Parts of Scotland could start off on Sunday with temperatures in the mid single digits, but most around the country will begin on 10C to 12C.
Showers will move in from the southwest east across the country possibly bringing thunder, lightning, and hail.
Some areas will get sunshine and see temperatures almost reach 20C, still below average where this time of the year would be.
On Sunday evening the rain and cloud will dissipate and Monday morning could see clear skies return.
Met Office meteorologist Simon Partridge said: “We’ve had quite a few heavy showers across the country today, there was some pretty heavy rain in the east but that’s cleared and left us with showers.
“There will be more, tomorrow is sunshine and showers across the whole of the UK, but not quite as windy as today.”
He added: “There will probably be disruption to play across Wimbledon tomorrow, mainly in the afternoon. Wimbledon will mostly be dry in the morning, and the same with the Grand Prix.”
On Saturday some areas saw 20mm of rain, but it did not have an impact as it came on the back of a fairly dry spell, Mr Partridge added.
Tonight:
Daytime showers will ease this evening, becoming confined to the north and west. Heavier showers return in the southwest and Liverpool Bay area by the morning but clearer elsewhere. Locally chilly under clear skies in the north.
Sunday:
Showers in the west will become more widespread through the day. Locally heavy and thundery in southern Scotland, northern England and east Wales. Sunny spells in between and light winds.
Monday to Wednesday:
Showers in the north on Monday, with cloud and rain across southern areas. Cloud and rain will then move northwards through Tuesday and will stay into Wednesday.
