Les Bleus open their Euro 2024 account against Austria tonight and will be looking to make a statement having seen both Germany and Spain impress over the weekend.
They’ve been tipped by many to win the tournament in Germany, and it’s not too difficult to see why.
Didier Deschamps’ side is packed full of talent with incredible strength in depth, and they appear to have mastered tournament football having reached the final in three of their last four major tournaments.
France were imperious during qualification, dropping just two points and conceding only three goals in eight matches.

They also boast a pretty formidable record against tonight’s opponents having won seven on their ten meetings in all competitions, losing just once.
But this Austria side is a very different one.
And that’s thanks to the positive influence of Ralf Rangnick, who has his Austria side playing an extremely high energy, pressing and direct style of football – much like the Red Bull model that many of the players have grown up in.
Austria also qualified in impressive fashion, finishing a point behind Belgium and collecting 19 from a possible 24 points with 17 goals to boot.
They are leaning into their role as EURO dark horses despite the absence of David Alaba, and many suspect there could be a surprise on the cards tonight.
Odds are correct at the time of publication and are subject to change.
The simple option would be to select Kylian Mbappe to score anytime at 10/11, but that’s a fairly short price given he’s never scored at a Euros.
Instead, I’m opting for Austria’s Christoph Baumgartner to get on the scoresheet.
The RB Leipzig star, 24, became the first Austrian player in over 40 years to score in five-consecutive matches for the country and is clearly relishing his attacking midfield role under Rangnick.
He also boasts a pretty good record for Austria having struck 15 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions.
Once again, all the focus will be on Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe, but perhaps it’s Antoine Griezmann the Austrian side should be worried about.
The Frenchman, 33, scored a mammoth 24 goals and provided eight assists in 48 appearances for Atletico Madrid last season.
He also shows up for France more often than not having been directly involved in more goals than any other European player at major tournaments – scoring 11 and registering seven assists in 25 games.
Austria striker Michael Gregoritsch looks a good shout to produce 2+ shots on target at 29/10 with William Hill.
The 30-year-old produced the seventh-highest number of shots on target during the qualification process with 12 in his six appearances – beaten only by the likes of Mbappe, Romelu Lukaku and Cristiano Ronaldo.
He also ranked 11th for most shots in the Bundesliga with Freiburg last season. Austria have also scored in 17-successive international games while France conceded in every game but one en-route to the World Cup final in Qatar.
