ONE woman who attended her ex-husband’s wedding is being accused of trying to outshine the bride.
Being present for an ex’s nuptials might not be for the faint of heart, but people didn’t think that was an excuse for her bad behavior.
“My ex and I had a peaceful divorce. We co-parent our three children together and there haven’t really been many issues,” said Reddit user closureseekingex.
She explained how her ex’s new partner also got along well with her children.
She was even “happy” for the couple after her ex-husband invited her to the wedding.
After all, it simply made “sense” for her to come since it was her day with their kids.
What she didn’t expect was the bride’s bewildering reaction when she showed up for the big day.
“When I arrived at the wedding, Stephanie thanked me for dropping the kids off and brushed me off. We had never had any issues before,” she said.
After standing her ground and making it known that she planned on staying for the reception, the bride only got more “upset.”
She was mostly confused because she didn’t think her planned attendance was a secret.
“It turned out she didn’t consider that I would actually accept the invitation,” she said.
“I told her that I was invited and since I took the two-hour drive, I would be staying for the entire duration,” she added.
It was safe to say that she didn’t take that well.
She even asked her to leave.
“She went on to complain about my dress upstaging hers,” she said.
“My ex and former mother-in-law helped her to calm down and the wedding shortly began,” she added.
Once the wedding was over she thought the matter of the dress mishap was also a thing of the past, but that was far from the case.
She later accused her of “trying to ruin her special day.”

“She is convinced that I wanted to show off and make the wedding about my divorce,” she said.
“She said it was rude for me not to leave after the bride requested it because it was her special day,” she added.
“I told her that I am not responsible for her insecurities and once again reminded her that I have no interest in ‘stealing’ my ex back.”
Regardless of her excuses, most people thought she had showed bad behavior towards the bride.
And they didn’t hold back.
“Can you imagine showing up in a wedding dress to your ex’s wedding and then when the bride asks you to leave her wedding she refuses!” wrote one user.
“If I was the bride I would have refused to proceed with anything until she left. How utterly disrespectful,” they added.
“Also, the fact that she came to this Subreddit to try and make themselves feel better about the situation? I just can’t,” they continued.
Others were in wholehearted agreement about the situation.
“Girl, stop pretending you did nothing wrong and blaming it on her insecurities,” said another reader.
“That dress is too much for a guest at a wedding. Way too bright and unless this was a super elegant wedding, too much,” another reader chimed in.
“You didn’t dress nicely, you deliberately tried to upstage the bride and probably ruined your relationship with her, your ex, and eventually your children, as a result of the fallout of this,” wrote one Redditor.
“You don’t accept others’ judgment and just call it ‘dressing nicely’ when literally the dress is just a red wedding dress,” said yet another reader.
