A HOME decor fan has admitted her biggest icks when it comes to interior design.
She dislikes obscene color schemes and doesn’t think a common lighting error is a good addition in homes.
A Reddit user doesn’t like tacky color schemes; they give her a headache (stock image)[/caption]Reddit user notoriousLPG asked for the “judgiest” interior decor opinions in a post and one person heavily delivered.
Redditor ruby-inthe-dust loved the idea and gave a long list of honest feedback.
“Okay here goes.. I am super judgy!” they wrote.
A massive one is “tacky themes or color schemes,” which have been known to make her feel ill.
Among her biggest pet peeves were “corny quotes,” too many family photos, and fake gardening aesthetics like flowers, plants, or turf.
And there’s a specific reason why.
At the time, she recently visited a coworker’s house who said she had a ‘coastal beachy aesthetic’.
“The colors in her home were strictly either beige or teal blue with purple as her accent color,” she explained.
She added how there were bright teal curtains in every room, beige tiles, and one synthetic rug in her living room with a beige and teal swirl pattern.
This was definitely not the Redditor’s cup of tea.
There were also cushions with computer-generated images of shells and palm trees on them.
Basic canvas prints of pixelated photographs of beaches, sunsets, palm trees, dolphins, and beach houses also covered the walls.
“Fake succulents and fake purple orchids dotted in between the multitude of family photos with ‘inspirational quotes’ made from stickers stuck to her beige walls,” she wrote.
These distinct decor features were on her list of interior design things that she judges, and this co-worker had them all.
“The furniture was not ‘whitewashed’ timber or tea. It was a laminated ‘oak look.’ Ugh! Oh! AND her sofa was black pleather with a frosted glass TV unit,” she added.
Redditor ruby-inthe-dust admitted that she actually felt bad for how she thought because she knew her friend from work was looking forward to showing her newly decorated place to her.
“She just has NO idea what she is doing. Bless her,” she said.
“I left with a headache from all the teal and beige and an offer to go thrift shopping and to some car boot sales with her. Maybe I can nudge her in the right direction.”
The most important thing she judges for is lighting.
If you opt for white overhead lighting on your property and do not use lamps and warm white lighting, that is a big no-no in her book.
“You are committing a crime in my opinion,” she said.
Interior designer Judy Hoang shared her furniture tips with The U.S. Sun.
Some Reddit users found her detailed description entertaining, while others disagreed.
“The pixelated photo thing is so funny! I could see an older relative doing that and it being sweet in an ‘okay grandfather’ type of way,” one Reddit user replied.
“Ah, I have to disagree about the photos. Although I’m not a fan of the table by the front door filled with photos like my grandmother and aunt had, I think a framed photo or two in each room can be a nice addition,” another commented.
