There’s currently one new product that is getting a lot of attention – the Overnight Clarity Serum.

The Overnight Clarity serum is a retinal and niacinamide formulation, which shoppers are calling a miracle worker – though myself and my mum can attest to this too.
Trinny’s Overnight Clarity serum is suitable for all skin types, which is a big pull factor in our point of view.
The retinoid family can scare some as it is known for being an active ingredient, but there are different potency levels, with retinal the closest to the pure retinoic ingredient and retinol the furthest.
With that in mind, this formulation utilises the vitamin A derivative, retinal, so beauty buffs can reap the benefits of the high potency ingredient safely in their skincare regime even with sensitive skin. Dreamy!
Retinal works to exfoliate the skin, and remove dead skin, which can contribute to blemishes and breakouts, while also plumping the fine lines and wrinkles for an overall youthful and clear complexion.
The formula also contains Glycine-bonded Azelaic Acid, the superfood Chlorella Vulgaris, Niacinamide, and a unique patented molecule Epi-On.
The formulation works to target several skin concerns, such as anti-ageing, hyperpigmentation and brown spots, dark and lacklustre complexion, redness and uneven skin texture, making it a multifunctional hero product.
The cocktail of ingredients works together to treat those issues overnight, but what are they?
Azelaic acid is a key ingredient in skincare, but a hard one to find, as it has anti-inflammatory properties to not only calm down any redness or pigmentation but also brighten the skin’s complexion.
Similarly, Chlorella Vulgaris has prebiotic and probiotic attributes to calm inflammation and sensitivities, while also encouraging cell renewal for a healthy microbiome, clearer complexion and all-around brightness.
Niacinamide may be an ingredient you have heard bounced around a lot as it has anti-ageing benefits, and maintains healthy skin.
The unique molecule Epi-On is a healing ingredient to bolster tissue repair, treat stressed skin or breakouts for a clearer complexion, and improve skin health.
The formula is also vegan, and cruelty-free.
It’s been hugely popular with shoppers who simply can’t get enough of the nighttime skincare essential.

I also trialled the serum, along with my 60-something-year-old parent who has a real soft spot for all Trinny London products.
I am used to using retinol, but my mum is not so much, which is the beauty of this product – anyone, of any age, skin type and skin concern, no matter how familiar they are with certain ingredients can use, and reap the benefits, of this hero product.
With any retinal-containing product, it is advised to slowly acclimatise to the potent ingredient, and use one night a week, then increase to two nights a week, before increasing to every other night.
I was able to start with two nights a week, before increasing the usage – until my mum nabbed it from me, and gradually started using the formula.
As a 30-something conscious of those fine lines creeping in, hormonal breakouts and a round lacklustre complexion from late nights and a terrible diet, this serum brightened, smoothed, and evened my skin tone almost instantaneously.
It also reduced the appearance of pores, fine lines and any blemishes bubbling under the skin.
My mum (who I must admit has an enviably youthful complexion) used to plump her skin in areas she felt were starting to sag, reduce the appearance of brown spots and wrinkles, and even some areas of pigmentation and scarring seamlessly.
It is super easy to incorporate into your evening skincare routine, simply apply after cleansing your skin, and when you feel it has been absorbed then follow with a moisturiser – I typically opt for a hyaluronic serum for extra hydration.
But be sure to cleanse thoroughly again in the morning to remove those active ingredients, moisturise and, most importantly, wear an SPF too.
