LONG are the days of simply splashing your face with water and applying a pea-sized amount of moisturiser in a bid for glowy skin.
Skincare has massively evolved, with a huge range of creams, serums, toners and oils on the market.
I tried four of the weirdest edible skincare products[/caption]But that’s not all – in recent years we’ve seen an increase in edible skincare.
As well as drowning our faces with lotions and potions, it appears that more people are also drinking their skincare too.
So if you thought that you’d get glowing skin simply just by applying products to your face, you’ll need to think again.
I tried four of the weirdest, and to be totally honest, grossest, edible skincare buys – from bone broth to sea moss.
Not only this, but I also tried the mango greens powder that influencers everywhere are raving about, as well as bee pollen, which was definitely not as sweet as I had expected (and hoped).
Here’s my honest verdict on the four products…
Every single influencer under the sun seems to be raving about this at the moment.
I can see why influencers like this powder, but it wasn’t as nice as I was expecting[/caption] However, I would dry this considering the huge range of benefits[/caption]But I wondered if it was all just ‘paid for’ positivity – and was keen to see how it actually tasted.
The green powder is uniquely formulated for women, and contains 21 ingredients, plus a natural mango twist.
It is high in fibre to support digestion and is rich in powerful enzymes, which are supposed to help to keep your skin healthy.
I was initially pretty grossed out by the smell, but I have to say, it was definitely a lot nicer than the other green juices I’ve tried

While this powder, which is suitable for vegans and vegetarians, can be added to smoothies, it can also be mixed with water, which is how I tried it.

The mango flavour really saved this powder for me, and it surprised me in a good way.
But despite giving it a good stir, I found that some of the powder didn’t dissolve, leaving a pretty unpleasant, powdery taste in my mouth.
Despite the awful smell and slightly bitty taste, I would probably drink it again based on the huge list of beneficial ingredients.
Bone broth is another product that’s all over my For You Page on TikTok at the minute.
I’d definitely prefer to add bone broth to sauces and soups, rather than drinking it by itself[/caption] It didn’t have the gravy-like taste I was hoping for[/caption]This version, from Freja Foods, contains 25 grams of protein and 18 grams of collagen, which to me, was pretty impressive.
It’s sustainably sourced and Norwegian by nature, and I decided to give the beef flavour a taste.
It has a variety of different benefits – not only does it aid weight loss, but it also contains essential nutrients for immunity, digestion and inflammation too.
I can imagine that if you added this to a soup or pasta sauce, it wouldn’t taste as bad, but by itself – it’s not for me

But that’s not all – as it also ensures strong joints and muscles and assists with keeping your hair, skin and nails healthy too.
Whilst you can add this product to soups, sauces or stews, you can also have it by itself, and it can be served hot or cold.
I simply poured some into a mug and heated it up in the microwave for a minute.
The smell wasn’t too bad, but to me, the taste wasn’t pleasant at all.
Whilst I’m a big gravy lover and could drink the stuff out of a jug, I unfortunately can’t say the same for this product.
I can imagine that if you added this to a soup or pasta sauce, it wouldn’t taste as bad.
But by itself, it’s not for me.
The next product I tried unfortunately left me equally unimpressed.
Bee pollen is not for me – the dry explosion that occurred in my mouth was not pleasant[/caption] The texture was far too dry for my liking[/caption]Bee Pollen, which doesn’t come cheap, at £29.99 for a 250 gram tub, is packed with nutrients.
It is naturally fermented in the beehive and is high in Vitamin B12, and contains Riboflavin, Niacin, Pyridoxine and more.
Not only are such products intended to make us ‘feel well’, but according to Raw Pot, they also offer something that no other foods are capable of – such as vitality, sustained energy, glowing skin and enhanced focus.
It must be stored in the freezer and can be sprinkled over cereal or yoghurt or eaten by itself.
I was really excited to try this, but was slightly put off by the appearance of the stuff.
The explosion of dryness in my mouth immediately resulted in a coughing fit

Whilst I was expecting something with an appearance similar to honey, I was stunned to see lots of tiny grain-like pieces that looked weirdly similar to fish food.
I tried barely half of a teaspoon of the stuff, which is suitable for vegetarians, but not for those allergic to bee stings, and it was so dry, and very powdery.
To be honest, it wasn’t a pleasant experience at all, and whilst I was looking forward to a sweet, honey-like taste, this was far from that.
The explosion of dryness in my mouth immediately resulted in a coughing fit, and I don’t think I’ve ever reached for a drink so quickly in my life.
I can imagine that this would be easier to consume if it was sprinkled over a yoghurt, but eating it by itself is not something I’ll be doing again.
The final edible skincare buy that I tried was sea moss.
Model Bella Hadid is among the celebs drinking it every morning – so would I be converted?
Sea moss left me gagging and my eyes wouldn’t stop watering – it wasn’t a pretty sight[/caption] Unfortunately the slimy texture and strange taste didn’t quite agree with me[/caption]With a 500ml jar costing £23.95, you might think this is pricey, but it comes with a long list of benefits – it supports your metabolism and soothes bloating just to name two.
Not only this, but it also aids weight loss, contains natural multivitamins and protects and nourishes your skin.
My eyes instantly began watering and I was really surprised at how such a small amount of the stuff made me wretch

Whilst it can be added into smoothies, it can also be consumed alone, which is how I tried it.
But even just thinking about the taste is bringing back bad memories.
As soon as I opened the jar, the appearance of the texture instantly put me off.
Dermatologist Dr. Brendan Camp shared his dermatologist-approved tips with The U.S. Sun:
The smell was pretty vile and after trying just half a teaspoon, I immediately gagged.
My eyes instantly began watering and I was really surprised at how such a small amount of the stuff made me wretch.
Not only was this not pleasant, but I then felt sick for the whole rest of the day.
While some of my family members tried it and didn’t have the same horrific reaction as I did, I definitely won’t be consuming this again, even though I am keen to bring the glow back to my skin.
