THREE little-known tricks can dramatically improve your hair growth, says a dermatologist.
She surprisingly recommended teaming a popular hair treatment with an anti-aging product to achieve the best results.
Dr. Adel (@aamnaadel) boasts over 1.5 million followers on TikTok, where she shares skin, hair, and nail tips.
The dermatologist held up Rogaine as she shared a photo of a person with visible balding.
Rogaine is an over-the-counter brand of minoxidil approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treating hair growth in men and women.
According to MedicalNewToday, most people won’t see much difference in their hair growth until they’ve applied minoxidil topically for at least eight weeks.
A two-month supply of Rogaine for women is available for $33.34 at Walmart.
Dr. Adel had voluminous long locks for herself as she shared her haircare tips.
“Minoxidil hacks for better hair growth,” read the text over the screen.
“Use with a derma roller, 1.5mm, one to two times a week.
“Use with tretinoin.
“Use with finasteride, not for women especially pregnant.”
Walmart sells a beard and hair growth derma roller for $7.49, which currently has a 4.3-star rating from customers.
It features 0.25 mm microneedles that painlessly “activate quiet hair follicles and promote collagen production to create thicker, healthier hair.”
Tretinoin is a derivative of vitamin A and is commonly used for reducing the appearance of fine lines, dark spots, and acne breakouts.
A study published by the National Library of Medicine found that using the prescription-strength medication topically stimulated hair growth in the majority of participants with androgenetic alopecia.
However, trichologist Helen Reavey told Refinery29 that doctors may be reluctant to prescribe using the cream alongside minoxidil as there isn’t more research supporting its effectiveness.
“Minoxidil is made up of about 80% alcohol; it causes a lot of irritation already,” Helen said.
“Then you’re going to put something else [potentially irritating] on top.”
Finasteride is a prescription drug that comes as an oral tablet. It is often used to treat enlarged prostate and male pattern baldness.
According to Lloyds Pharmacy, finasteride is not a permanent cure for male baldness therefore hair loss will resume if you stop taking it.
Hair loss specialists overall consider it safe to use alongside minoxidil.
Dr. Adel showed each product as Jain’s viral song Makeba played in the background.
“How to make your Regaine work harder,” she said.
Over 33,000 people liked the video and hundreds of viewers took to the comment section asking for more advice.
She recommended using minoxidil or tretinoin at different times of the day to reduce irritation, with one in the morning and the other in the evening.
The dermatologist reassured female viewers that it’s safe for them to use 5% minoxidil.
She added that derma rollers should be cleaned in between uses to reduce the risk of infection and scarring.
