A SAVVY saver has shared the four things you need to stop buying when doing your food shop.
So if you want to save money on your groceries, you’ve come to the right place.
Kathryn Leech, who is also known online as ‘Kat Saves’, revealed the four supermarket buys that according to her, simply aren’t worth the cash.
The bargain hunter, who is from Manchester, regularly shares her top tips and tricks on ‘how to shop smarter and save money’ on social media, – but she’s left many divided by some of her recent remarks.
Posting online, Kat revealed: “What not to buy when you’re shopping on a budget.”
When it comes to pre-prepared fruit, Kat isn’t a fan.
She said: “Pre-cut fruit. Now I’ve talked about this before, you don’t need to be buying this fruit that’s been cut up for you and put in these plastic tubs.
“It is so much better value for money and so much cheaper just to buy your own fruit and cut it up yourself.”
Similarly, if you’re craving a smoothie, according to Kat, it’s much more cost effective to buy fruit separately and make it yourself.
She added: “Pre-made smoothies, now this is literally the same premise.
“You can make your own smoothies, the ingredients are literally on the bottle.
“You can make the exact same smoothie at home for so much cheaper.”
Calling all jacket potato lovers – as according to Kat, if you buy frozen spuds, you clearly have ‘money to burn’.
The money-saving whizz claimed: “If you’re one of those people who buy frozen baked potatoes, I just assume that you’ve got money to burn.
“These are so overpriced. If I was on a budget, I would just be buying a loose potato and doing it myself, making it myself.
“If you look at the ingredients on the box, it literally just says potato and oil. You can do it yourself for a fraction of the price.”
Finally, if you would struggle to part with your much-loved Yorkshire Tea, prepare to be attacked.
The savvy saver concluded: “The next one, people are going to disagree with – this is branded tea bags.
“You do not need Yorkshire tea, PG Tips. If you are shopping on a budget, you can just buy the supermarket own brand tea.
“It’s just tea leaves, it’s all pretty much the same.
“If I was on a budget, I would always be buying the own brand.”
I’m frugal as anything but the only thing I refuse to give up is my Yorkshire tea
TikTok users
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @katsaves, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 17,800 views.
But social media users were left divided by the clip – while some were thankful for the advice, others were keen to disagree.
One person said: “Good video and super helpful.”
Another added: “So helpful thank you.”
However, at the same time, another user wrote: “Unfortunately, for people with disabilities, pre-chopped/blended fruit is the only option. Same goes for prepped veg, chopped meat etc.”
In response, Kat explained: “Yeah completely fair point, this video just isn’t for those people then.”
Whilst someone else added: “That’s fine if you have zero disabilities and perfect mental health at all times. A budget can’t only be lower numbers, it has to fit the person.”
To this, Kat replied: “Yeah fair point, I guess this is generalised.”
Not only this, but many tea lovers confessed that they could never give up Yorkshire tea.
One tea fan explained: “I’m frugal as anything but the only thing I refuse to give up is my Yorkshire tea. I wish it didn’t have such a stronghold over me.”
A second chimed in: “Budget or not I’m always buying Yorkshire tea bags.”
Whilst a third expressed: “You had me right up to the point you zoned in on Yorkshire Tea. I’d sell a Kidney rather than give up my Yorkshire tea.”
