A CHEMIST has confessed that she was pleasantly surprised by Trader Joe’s budget-friendly range of skincare products.
She revealed a selection of her favorite beauty items from the store that each cost less than $10.
Sarah Babula (@sarahbabula) has garnered over 47,000 followers on TikTok, where she shares skincare advice.
She had a “flawless” appearance as she shared her honest opinion on the ingredients listed on beauty products sold by Trader Joe’s.
“I’m a chemist and I’ve always wondered if Trader Joe’s skincare was actually good or not because it’s so affordable,” she said.
“I thought I’d pick a couple of products and go through it with you guys.
“So, first the retinol serum is only $10.
“This doesn’t look like the most sophisticated formulation but again it’s $10.
“They do have some vitamin C derivatives in here and some ingredients that should help with irritation.
“If you like this serum definitely keep using it. I mean it’s got retinol in it so it’s going to be doing something.”
Trader Joe’s retinol night serum contains a 0.3% concentration of retinol.
The brand recommends “applying it once or twice a week, as your skin tolerates it, followed by a generous layer of your favorite TJ’s moisturizer.”
According to MedicalNewsToday retinol is a form of vitamin A that can be beneficial for aging gracefully and treating acne.
“The antioxidant serum might be my favorite,” Sarah said showing the item.
“It’s $10 and it has a great vitamin C derivative, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, and it also has Ubiquinone which is an amazing antioxidant to include in your serums.
“It even has ascorbic acid in there but it’s in a waterless formulation so it should be pretty stable and it’s not a lot of ascorbic acid, only a little bit.
“The only thing is it does have retinol in here too so just be aware of that.
“That’s not bad, it’s just that maybe you don’t want to be using retinol in the morning and then a retinol serum at night.
“Overall I do think this has some really great antioxidants in it.”
Studies show that antioxidants prevent or slow cell damage caused by free radicals, known as oxidative stress.
Activities that lead to oxidative stress include excessive exercise, smoking, and environmental pollution.
Sarah continued her list with a product that can promote skin health and fight the signs of aging.
“This is their hyaluronic acid serum for $9,” she said.
“This is literally just hyaluronic acid, which isn’t bad if you’re literally just looking for hyaluronic acid.
“Maybe you have very sensitive skin, you don’t want a bunch of other ingredients.
“If that’s what you’re looking for then this is definitely a good option.
“Then lastly we have the Honey Hydration day and night cream,” she said showing the product.
“Some people were asking if this was a dupe for the Honey Halo moisturizer.
“Sadly it’s not, that one has some other ingredients that this does not have.
“The one that is a dupe is CosRX propolis moisturizer, which if you’ve seen my other videos you know I’m obsessed with it.
“This on its own though is still a great moisturizer and only $8,” she said speaking about the Trader Joe’s cream.
“It has things like honey, seed oils, aloe, ceramides, and the night cream I think is just going to be a thicker formulation.
“I do think on its own this is just a great affordable moisturizer.”
Over 39,000 people liked the video and hundreds of viewers took to the comment section to share their thoughts on Trader Joe’s skincare products.
“I use these products and they’re AMAZING my skin loves them,” one person wrote.
“I use all except the last one and I like them,” another said. “I also buy their vitamin E oil and add a drop in my morning moisturizer. Game changer.”
“I’ve been using this hyaluronic acid for a decade and love it. I always choose this one over any other,” a third chimed in.
“Your skin is flawless,” another said complimenting Sarah.
